1.0 out of 5 stars Coconut in almost every recipe 21 Oct. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I would agree with the other reviewers that there appear to be some lovely recipes in this little book. However as a coeliac who is trying to 'go paeleo' but is also allergic to coconut this book is a is an ingredient in all but 2 recipes! I just wanted to raise some awareness in case others are in a similar position with regards the coconut scenario

4.0 out of 5 stars That pumpkin cheesecake on the cover--Good luck! 28 Nov. 2013
By SpeedShopper - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love the concept of the cookbook and every single recipe looks delish (even my eleven-year-old agrees). I started with the lemon bars which were labor intensive (for what I'm used to) but incredible. My family ranted and raved about them, and they disappeared quickly. My second recipe brought out some frustrating aspects though. I tried making the no-bake pumpkin cheesecake (again labor intensive). Some of the ingredients are not specific enough for my liking and left me crossing my fingers. For example, 1 can of pumpkin puree. It doesn't say what size can and I happened to have a very large 26 oz. can so I made the guess that the author meant a 13 oz. can. Same with the coconut milk-- 1 can. I had a large container so I had to guess that 1 can= 1 1/2 cups. In between preparing the filling and the pumpkin topping I was left wanting more details too. It said to refrigerate the fillings for 1-2 hours but didn't specify what the consistency should look like before adding the pumpkin topping. I guessed, based on the recipe pic, that it should be firm and gelatin-like. I followed the next set of directions for adding the pumpkin filling even though the white center filling still seemed liquidy after being in the fridge overnight. The pumpkin filling fell straight through the middle with a big plop so I carefully spread a thin layer around the rest of the top. I hope it's ready for my Thanksgiving dinner but not hopeful. Too much guessing on this recipe for my liking, but I will still give it 4 stars because the lemon bars were that good and I still look forward to trying out a couple other recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A Cookbook With Recipes for Desserts My Kids Will Eat! 4 Oct. 2013
By Mindy S. - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I must be honest. I am a health nut and as such am a little over-involved in what my children put in their mouths. We are a whole food, organic, gluten free household. It is difficult for many adults to embrace this challenge, let alone kids. This is the first paleo recipe book that has risen to the challenge of my kids' taste buds. My two sons (ages 4 and 2) are some of the toughest critics around! When they tried the pumpkin ice cream my oldest said, "What is this? It's delicious!" and my 2 year old handed me his bowl for seconds. I can't wait to try out the rest of these recipes!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful cake recipes. 8 Oct. 2013
By K Johnson - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a cake decorator and of course my first interest was cake! I went right to the cake section and picked out the chocolate cupcake recipe. After I bought the ingredients and began putting it all together I realized I had no cupcake papers. No problem! This recipe fit an 8" cake pan perfectly. It didn't round at the top and was perfectly level. After it cooled for a bit I could not wait to cut into it. It was still a bit warm and tasted like a warm brownie but not sickening sweet like normal. I really enjoyed the natural, deep chocolate flavor without the sickening sweet taste. It was a nice dense but very silky texture and just melted in my mouth. I didn't make the icing. Didn't need it. I can't wait to try the rest of the cake recipes here! What a nice change. I will definitely use this recipe again and recommend it to anyone who loves chocolate.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Paleo plan needed this! 3 Oct. 2013
By Lindsey - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a recent Paleo convert. The first week was hard, and I wanted to pull over at every pizza joint and ice cream shop I passed, but then I decided to invest in a few good cookbooks and really give it a try. Well, I am SO happy to know that I don't have to give up good food and sweets, and this cookbook is testament to that. I have found a new joy in cooking, and a love for these healthy treats that I can make once a week and share with my family.
First off, I enjoy a simple good cookie now and again, but I love baking more than that, so this book is perfect for me. It combines a short list of great ingredients and good instructions. The results are stunning. New ideas, new flavors and delicious desserts. I'm glad I have a copy for my kitchen and can't wait to have guests over to share these treats!

5.0 out of 5 stars If the photography doesn't make you drool, the sweet smells will!! 7 Oct. 2013
By Natalie - Published on

I bought this book for my husband, a lover of sweets, who happens to have married a woman with a strict no white sugar policy. Needless to say, he is thrilled to get to try some of these "wife approved" dessert recipes that actually have incredible ingredient. Angela says "precisely the lowest amount of sweetener a recipe needs to be appealing were given a great deal of consideration". This is music to my ears! A wonderful collection, looking forward to creating each and every single one!
