an exceptional collection of songs,
By
This review is from: Bare (Audio CD)
This amazing album finds Barb in a reflective mood singing some heartbreaking songs in her inimitable style. Her voice is perfectly matched to each song throughtout,a strong, characterful vocalist always, but never more so than on Robb Johnson's Au Depart and Barbs own What Lovers Do.The cover versions have become definitive for me-Me & Bobby McGee, My Father, Sons Of...,etc. One incredible cover is the Kinks Waterloo Sunset, slow paced and wistful-just beautiful! Ian Dury's What a Waste is a version that takes the song to a new dimension and I've never heard Leonard Cohen's Suzanne done better. The only quibble I have is with running order-the last song should be further back, not at the end, but it's a very small quibble! The only better way to hear Barb is live where she really excells-catch her soon if you get the chance!

A great introduction to Barb Jungr,
By D. L. Davilla "Dan Davilla" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bare (Audio CD)
If you don't know who Barb Jungr is, this is a great way to get introduced to one of the most soulful singers of our time. She reminds me of Nina Simone. Barb has the ability to bring songs and lyrics to life. In this albumn she is accompanied by only a pianist who along with Barb shine on this album. Some of the highlights of the album are King of the Road (the Roger Miller classic) and Waterloo Sunset by Ray Davies. This album is one of my favorites of Barb's and a great place to get started in the Barb Jungr catalog. Enjoy!!!
