After reviewing a range of these types of products online and in shops I finally went for this item from the trusted Barbour range. The satchel / briefcase has that rare ability of looking just right whether worn with jeans or a suit and is so much better than Black or smooth Brown leathers, the finish is antiqued i.e. heavily grained with good quality buckles and straps. The inside has the minimum amount of silly compartments, just the few you actually need, is well padded internally for carrying a laptop etc and could be used as an overnight bag. I decided to treat the bag from new to a dressing of Carrs Leather Oil to waterproof the bag and prevent water staining marks, this will happen to all untreated leathers if not carried out.
In short the cost whilst higher than some similar looking bags is fully justified in terms of the workmanship and quality of all materials used. With care this bag will easily last a lifetime, if damage does occurs then what more trusted a name than Barbour could you turn to with their excellent U.K. based customer repair centre.

I have been looking for a decent briefcase for a while and short listed examples from a couple of the online leather briefcase shops, particularly some nice handmade Italian ones. Chapman also makes some very nice canvas bags. Ultimately I choose the Barbour bag as it is less formal in appearance, more durable and is more practical, both in terms of the more versatile compartments but also it is a comfortable shoulder bag of a manageable size. Barbour quality is excellent and the grained brown leather looks great. I am not a 100% fan of the quick release buckles, if only because I worry about losing one, but in reality they are entirely practical for real world use. I would prefer if the base of the bag was slightly stiffer, but this is very minor point. The purchase came from Country Attire Ltd who I have never used before and used their free post option. I ordered the item at lunchtime and it arrived at 3.00pm the following day and was well packaged and in perfect condition. I cannot fault this service. Overall the high price is quickly forgotten as this is a very satisfying bag to own and use.

Quality!
Bought this as a gift for my husband. He loved it. Great looking bag. Beautiful leather and very good value for money. Would definitely recommend.

Barbour Leather Briefcase
Delighted with this case. Just what I wanted and the size is perfect. I have another one from a different company but not quite so good.
