When I became a Mum I was adamant I would not let a Barbie in my house. Oh how naive I was, plastic legged horror after impossible shaped terror were given as presents to my 2 daughters, along with all their oh so hooverable upable accessories.
Then one day we got a DVD. Eldest D was insistent, we had to watch it there and then. Middle son was horrified and Daddy even offered to mow the lawn!!! But oh, how wrong they were. It has opened up a new world of high quality films for the family.
Forget the commercialism and hideousness of the dolls (sorry if you love them, but I want my girls to be happy with themselves and confident of their bodies without having to conform to the impossible).
The Barbie films are without doubt, though, some of the most beautiful and magical films we have ever watched. Barbie does, admittedly still have the legs and lives in a world of pinkness, but, she also has a brain, is brave, honest, dependable, caring, individual and an altogether good egg. Yes she falls in love with dashing Princes (usually called Eric or Derek!) but you know what - its fairytale stuff and has an innocence that is absolutely charming. Even middle son says (in private) that The Island Princess is his favourite film (though in company it's Transformers!).
This boxed set is an absolute bargain for 4 stunning films your little princesses (and princes?) will adore.
