Product Description

Baraka - A visually stunning film shot over 13 months in 24 countries, Baraka is an overwhelming experience that spans the geographical, cultural and social diversity of our changing planet. Set to an atmospheric soundtrack inspired by various rituals and nature itself; the film captures the very essence of man's relationship with the earth, both harmonious and catastrophic. Baraka is a journey of rediscovery. It is the power, the beauty and the rage of life itself. It is the world we live in. Chronos - Chronos is the directorial debut of Ron Fricke, director of Baraka and cinematographer of Koyaanisqatsi. Originally shot in the largest film format, Imax 1570, the film imparts a unique vision of our world - the first non-verbal, non-fiction motion picture filmed in time-lapse photography. Presented as a visual symphony in seven movements, Chronos embarks on an unprecedented cinematic journey across the worlds of natural beauty and manmade monuments, as it explores the essence of time. Baraka includes - The making of , crew interviews and a behind the scenes feature. Chronos includes director, composer, production manager commentary and a behind the scenes feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful 17 Oct 2009
I will not go in depth of describing the qualities of these films, as this has been done by many people before me and probably in a much more coherent and descriptive way.

However, I will say that although the films were shot quite a number of years ago, they are as necessary today as they were when they were shot.

Please watch these films, but also please take your time and just immerse yourself in what these films show. The imagery is stunning, and some of the things that you realise about the world, about other people, about yourself are just unique.

Along with the Qatsi trilogy, they stand as landmarks in the history of film-making, creating a genre of their own and being the grandfathers of a lot of films you see today (such as the recent film "HOME", available on YouTube).

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking photography 4 Feb 2009
By Sheila
Baraka - a chance purchase while looking for a DVD. This is the most artistic and breathtaking photography I have ever come across, the music chosen to accompany the magical journey through our planet's wonders, is the most evocative accompaniment and sets the aural scene perfectly. Buy it now and become a fan of this captivating journey without words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baraka 8 Oct 2010
By Blu
Baraka is a stunning film both visually and in terms of soundtrack. It will open your eyes to new wonders and culture and is beautiful on the eye. Chronos looks like the dress rehearsal and is less polished in many ways. Given the excellent value of this box set, I would highly recommend.
