I bought one of these some 4 years ago hoping to find a device that would last longer than the zinc alloy pivotted type that I find break after a very short time (about one bowl of nuts!) This is better, but not worth the additional cost. The material used for the ratchet is too soft so that after two Christmases the action was slipping. I have carefully recontoured the teeth as far as practicable and obtained a further two years of use from it, but I am now having to find a replacement. Does no-one make a nut cracker that lasts?

a poorly manufactured, lower cost copy of the original product, or at leasrt definitely not as good as the old onw were were replacing. ALready after just 50-100 nuts, the ratchet is wearing. the ratchet release is too smal, and often ceases up itself. Just simply very disappointing and over priced. avoid it.

This ratchet action nut cracker is a variation on an older design which is practically no longer available. It is solidly constructed and has a rubber sleeve on the smaller handle.
What you can't see to the left of the picture is the small lever to the side which releases the secondary ratchet. This lever is a bit too small to be used easily and too stiff for a ladies hands to use without risk of bruising. This is a shame because the ratchet helps address a weakness in the original design whereby the primary ratchet slipped and eventually wore out.
Unfortunately the double ratchet mechanism this one uses is stiff and jams on tough nuts like almonds. Yes I can unjam it using all my strength, but that kinda defeats the point of such a thing! It's meant to be easy to use, not requiring strength and so is in my opinion not as good as the original which can be found, but at double the price of this one. You pays your money and takes.......

not nut crackers
Hopeless wont crack the easiest nuts badly made now left in the draw to rot tried all sorts of nut but the rachet is to lagge to get good pressure back to the old method
