I really do feel sorry for people who part with their hard earnt dosh to buy a series like 'Banshee' and then complain that it is too violent, too brutal, has too much gratuitious sex,the characters are too one dimensional etc.etc.etc.
I reviewed Banshee - HBO Season 1 [DVD] [2013
] and tried to make it clear that the show is a bit like watching a spaghetti western:its over the top, with the violence bordering on and beyond conventional Hollywood standards.
Well this is what you're getting again with season 2,but with a bit more depth to the main players from the 1st season and more storyline for some of the lesser characters such as the Sheriff's deputies and the American Indians hustling for more say in their land rights.
There is an audience for The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Oz, Boardwalk Empire to name just a few stunning American series that I have enjoyed recently.
I'm not sure that this same audience will find Banshee to their taste---possibly,or more likely probably, not.
Banshee is much more comic-strip,graphic and dare I say it--tongue in cheek. At least that's my take on it and I'm able to enjoy it for what it is,not for what it tries to be.
The only big-name actor with any gravitas is Ben Cross, yet another Brit cast as the villain in an American series or film (will they ever learn? There ARE American actors who can put on a foreign accent!).
Banshee,Season 2 is as brutal and uncomprimising as before. You have been warned.
Enjoy----or leave it alone and save your wonga.
