I was bitterly disappointed with this book. I've read Incubus and was SO impressed with it, and so taken with it, that I've read it six times since I was 11 (I'm now 27). I then decided to read his other books, thinking they'd all be as good. I was so wrong. 'Bane', however bear no resemblance in style to how he wrote 'Incubus'. The style was so radically different I couldn't believe it was the same author.
It was unsubtle, down-right funny (when it shouldn't be) full of 2d characters and cliches (a toothless old woman, a drunken scotsman etc) and absolutely laughable happenings 'jumping trees' being the perfect example.
There were really obvious scenes that I knew were going to happen way before they did, and scenes that went on for so long about nothing in particular where nothing actually happens (the harvest festival scene for example).
I still cannot believe it was the same author.
In conclusion: 'Bane' is a ridiculous, laughable and utterly stupid book. Do not waste your money.
