... then I am sure you'll enjoy this title from the "Guitar Hero" franchise.

About me: I'm a forty year old bloke with two daughters - and I bought Band Hero because I like Guitar Hero, not because they nagged me!

I've opened the pack, set up and played for about half an hour with a friend from work. So I have not been through much of the set list but the comments I would make are firstly that there is a good variety of old and new tunes from a variety of sub-genres of pop, secondly that some tracks are more biased towards the drumming, the guitar playing or the singing - they all seem to include all instruments though so everyone can play (or you could alternate between instruments in a single gig if you are playing along I guess). Because pop music doesn't necessarily feature guitar or drum track as highly as rock tracks it may be a little less clear (than on Guitar Hero) exactly what track through the music you are playing and I even found myself playing a series of notes from a trumpet or something with my guitar. Slightly weird - but I'm slightly addicted so didn't mind!

I was very impressed with the instruments. I have played Guitar Hero World Tour so knew what to expect with the guitar - they have given it a slight cosmetic upgrade though (which means that my daughter and I won't argue over who's guitar is who) - it seems solid and a good size for almost anyone. The drum kit and mic really surprised me though. The stand for the drums is made of metal and seems really solid, the wooden drum sticks seem very real to me and the whole kit seems like it could easily be sold as a stand-alone electronic drum-trainer kit it's that good. The mic feels like a real mic - not plasticky and toy-like at all, very solid and (again) realistic.

The software has received a make-over too since GH World Tour (I've not played GH5) and suits the pop theme. Much brighter with more bling - without being girly or distracting though. There are the new playing modes of course (Party Play, etc. - see the description because I haven't played them all) but the gigs are set up different too - rather than playing a single gig from start to finish (assuming you don't get boo-ed off stage) after each track you return to the menu system to choose which to play next from the set. I'm going to have to see if there's a way around this because I'd rather just keep playing.

Overall I'm glad I bought Band Hero rather than Guitar Hero - I'm not a rocker and I find some of the tracks in GH World Tour just too painful to play more than I had to to complete my "career". Band Hero has a lot of tracks I know and I think it will be much better for playing at parties and getting fools to sing along too whilst I try to pretend to be a credible musician. I can apparently "import" many of the tracks from World Tour and also download the rock tracks I want from the online store so I don't have to miss out on Queen, ZZ-Top or Oasis.

If you are a rocker and take your playing quite seriously you should probably buy GH5 - but if you want to play with family and friends (who can't name a Korn song nor know what band Zakk Wylde played) with then Band Hero would be the better purchase. Either way, prepare for some late nights and some sore knuckles if your fingers are used to finding frets on a guitar.

Fun:
Ok,well about me. I'm a 21 yr old female who has numerous crazy things for the wii. I have guns,a dance mat, wii fit; all the fancy things basically.
My friend had guitar hero on xbox and after a few goes; and managing to grasp the basics, I became quite a gh addict, so i looked into getting it for my wii. Thats when i found Rock band and Band hero. Basically if you like to 'rock out' I'd go for Rack band, but if your more 'poppy' then the Band Hero's for you.
For those of you who've never gone anywhere near guitar hero and have no idea what it is, basically you work your way through venues, playing 'gigs' and unlocking new levels and songs. You play the songs as if your the guitarist and it works on a range of 5 colours which you press whilst strumming on your guitar in time to the music on screen. You need nimble fingers and excellent hand-eye co-ordination to truly master this; as i sadly found out, I'm good at neither.
Anywho, Band hero is a mix of Guitar Hero. A drum set which works in the same way as the guitar-however for those people out there who fret that their fingers are too slow for the guitar (me) the drums may be your secret weapon. You just need to have,again, good hand-eye co-ordination.As for the singing, well if you've had singstar on the ps2, as I have, then you'll be fine.
I'll do the bad before the good as there's little for this section;

1- THE BIGGIE- IMPORTANT- you need 3 controllers to play the entire band. I didnt think you'd need a controller for the mic, but it so happens you do.Each instrument requires its own controller, I only have 2 controllers at the moment so can only currently 'rock out' with 2 instruments at the same time.If, like me, you dont really mind only being able to play 2 at once instead of 3, then its all good. But its definetly something you need to be aware of.

Thats all negative wise, so heres the goodies;

1-NO GOOD??DONT WORRY!!- Even if your not musical,or have never attempted this type of game before, or perhaps your a pro and have completed every guitar hero going, there's levels and songs to suit everyone. Beginner,easy,medium,hard,expert levels, just set where you want, as well as each song having a breakdown of difficulty for each instrument. Even if two of you are playing, or three, and ones beginner, ones expert and anothers medium you can all play together and it will work.

2-CREATE,CREATE,CREATE!-You can spend hours on this game just creating 'yourself', then after playing and unlocking more sparkly things to dress yourslef up in, you can go back and create some more! And if you get tired of creating you character, then why not work on your band name or logo? What i loved about this is it was so specific and there was a vast range of choice, unlike anything I've seen on a game before.

3-SOLO OR TRIO- You want to play alone??Just put the controller where you want it and play away. Or you want to duo?? Again, 2 contollers, put them in the instruments of your choice and the same with a trio. Even 4 people can rock out at the same time, however for this you obviously need 4 controllers and an extra guitar or microphone.

4-SET UP- I'm not exactly a techno expert and, like most women, struggle at putting together basic DIY furniture. So when faced with a box full of metal poles and pads and other such items (for the drum kit) I happily imagined my fella piecing it all together. What later happenend however was slightly different, he entertained himself on the guitar whilst I quickly attcahed bits, and had managed to build the drum kit, solo!, in about 5 minutes. Ok,he had to tighten a few bits here and there, but it very easy and is still standing tall!

So to sum up, if your debating getting this game just think whether a band with 3 would be better for you or guitar hero,also look at the song lists on both to decide whether band hero or rock band is your bag. I'm also gona add that even your mum and dad can join in on this, not all of the songs are new pop, such as Taylor Swift, theres Micheal Jackson, Kung fu Fighting, Poison and many more which will have the whole family singing and strumming along!!

Not Intuitive 25 Dec 2010

Where to begin

The overall kit is worth 5 stars I can't fault it however

1. The instructions, not very intuitive. Why do they have clear text for certain elements then for the important parts they decide to print it in the smallest font possible, I had to stand next to the window to read these bits. Utter rubbish

2. The game. Again not very intuitive. The menus are difficult to navigate and understand, yet this is meant for children, theres no performance indicators to see how you're doing

We purchased the Beatles along with Band Hero, a lot better, it actually helped us understand how to play the instruments etc, 5 hours we played this game for, more on the Beatles review

In my opinion throw the Band Hero disk away and use the instruments for the Beatles.

Wheres the Quality today

drums
Ordered just the drums to allow my daughter to practice as she has taken up drum lessons. As she is still keen have just ordered the game only to compliment the drum kit.

Love the drum set
I bought this game just because of the drum set. Maybe if given a choice I would have preferred a Guitar Hero (More Rock) type of game, but alas they are not sold with a drum set. Read more
