After seeing the TV programme I thought I would invest in a copy of the CD to support the band a bit. Recorded in the local Dinnington Lyric theatre this CD is packed full of great brass band classics and sounds every bit the professional studio production that you'd expect from a major release like this.

I'd like to congratulate the band on producing such a professional and capable sound. If anyone is in two minds because they think the standard may be below par - don't worry, you will support a good cause AND get a great selection of tunes that you'll be humming (and whistling) all day long! My particular favourites are Abide With Me, The Great Escape and the Sheffield United anthem "Annie's Song" - (I'm pretty sure any blades fan will stand three inches taller after hearing it played in such a majestic way!)

The standard on the CD is really good, the band sound tight and together under their new musical director. I hope the band do continue to go "onwards and upwards" and really get the full support of their community behind them. Long may it continue!

I bought this CD last week, and I am really enjoying it. There have been remarks about it being a "manufactured " band, but you would'nt know it from listening to this CD. I was very moved by the efforts of the original members to try and increase their membership, and keep the Band going. I have no connection with collieries whatsoever, but the bands they created in their heydey were wonderful. It would be such a shame to see them die out. My good wishes go to the members of this band. I hope they continue to make brilliant music for many years to come!

I recommend this CD to those who love Brass Band Music.

I haven't heard this yet but I saw the first programme last night and I am now going to buy the album. I only found out about the programme yesterday from the radio and I'm so glad I did, I am hooked! Keep up the good work Dinnington.

I would just like to point out that the description of Dinnington Colliery Band is incorrect - they are from SOUTH YORKSHIRE not County Durham.

This British Band from South Yorkshire is one of only about 700 brass bands still active in Great Britain. 35 years ago there were over 35,000, many disappearing with the British governments pit closure policy in the 1990s. The mines had to close and with it came the demise of many of the brass bands.

This group survived thanks to a 3 part BBC TV doco leading to a record deal with Universal, according to writer Ashley Studdal in the latest "Journal Into Melody" magazine of the Robert Farnon Society.

This CD contains a good variety of selections from a stirring rendition of Robert Browne Hall's "Death Or Glory" to the theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean".

Many of the key players are women including principal cornet Sally Bannan, flugel horn Penny Brookes and other players including Michelle Bowater, April Farthing, Elizabeth Hartley, Samantha Boden-Hook, Kay Brookes, Philipa Hobbs and Jess Marshal. So many female players in one band is highly unusual to my way of thinking.

The playing is superb, but the program is short with only 37 minutes of music. An hour or so would have made the CD better value.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the television programme with Sue Perkins, I couldn't wait to receive this CD. No, really! I was not disappointed.

The Band has a new Musical Director and Conductor in Jonathan Beatty, who deserves great praise for bringing out the spine-tingling quality of Dinnington Colliery Band.

All the favourites are here from the TV programme, but be prepared to be blown away by an amazing Pirates of the Caribbean! Stunning!

I highly recommend this CD to music lovers (brass band is not my usual choice of music) and really hope that the Dinnington Colliery Band does not make this a one off, but continues to record and give concerts.

I was really disappointed with this CD..... the music was good but sadly the quality of the CD was poor indeed, recorded with distortion in the wrong play order of tracks. The reproduction reminded me of an old worn out LP rather than a CD of the digital age! Perhaps the supplier has a faulty batch! I would have preferred the product to be replaced but for this item only a refund was possible!
