Why did Abena Change this diaper? 3 Sept. 2013
By Umbubba - Published on
Verified Purchase
We've been using Abena diapers on both of our children since transitioning them from cloth diapers at around 3months (one is now 31 months and the other 11months). We've always loved these diapers, and have had them on monthly subscribe & save order. Then we received a notice in late August that the diapers were no longer available via Subscribe & Save, and that our September 1 delivery of both cases of Abena diapers was cancelled. We were truly disappointed, and scrambled to find an alternative, finally finding that Abena had "New & Improved" models that are not available via Subscribe & Save. So we ordered just one case until we determined what was going on and have time to develop some options. Well, our order arrived last week and we're just not in love with this new version of the diaper. We immediately noticed that the diaper is significantly thinner. After a week of usage, we're finding that the diaper does not hold up as well, and that we're having to change our children more frequently. Additionally, the diaper seems to droop extensively after it fills, leaving large gaps around the inside of the legs for possible spillage. We don't recall any of these issues with the previous model of this diaper, as they seemed to withstand just about anything. So, we still like the diaper but we're certainly not blown away by them like we were the previous version. If we had our choice, we would still buy the previous model, even if we had to pay more for them.

So, Abena, why the changes?

Abena, please go back to the old version!!! 7 Sept. 2013
By MCC - Published on
I am in complete agreement with the other two reviewers about this diaper.

I have been using Bambo Nature diapers for the past 10 months and absolutely loved them. We have never once had a leak or diaper rash issue. My child could wear one of these suckers in the swimming pool and when I took it off of her, you couldn't believe how much water it could hold and not a drip spilled out. Sadly this is no longer the case with the "new and improved" version. The leg gussets leak water and the diaper even tore when I picked it up - never happened with the old version. I also noticed a glue smell which I never noticed on the older version. Why fix what wasn't broken?!

I too am now looking to switch to a new diaper. I am not sure these are worth the price anymore.

Abena, please consider switching back to the old version...

The best balance of the green diapers I've tried 21 Oct. 2014

I know there have been many comments regarding the change in the quality - the previous ones must've been fantastic as I'm quite happy with the performance of the current version. My only disappointment is I saw previous mention to an indicator on these, and perhaps that was also removed - I hardly think the light blue word "MIDI" printed in the location of a Pampers indicator qualifies - especially since it doesn't really change color when wet.

These diapers are slightly longer than the equivalent Pampers, Honest or Nurtured by Nature, which I like as I get just a little more coverage up the back on those blowouts. I've been very pleased with the absorbency, and am appreciative that they don't mask the smell of the urine with so many perfumes like Pampers does. I actually don't miss the indicator as much for this reason, since it allows a quick "smell check" to know if they need changing, without having to dig through the layers of clothing to visually check an indicator. On the other hand, my better half prefers a visual indicator, so these are not our only diaper.

One additional absorbency note: I believe these work about as well as the "12 hour" Pampers Baby Dry for overnight use. Our little one tends to sleep through the night with either Baby Dry or Bambo, but wakes if using regular Swaddlers.

All in all, I do like using a more natural diaper even with the additional cost, and have found these to be the best among the "green" diapers I've tried (Honest [equivalent but pricey!], Nurture by Nature [okay, but not as soft], Earth's Best [not worth it] in descending order of satisfaction).

Do Not Bother! Go with Andy Pandy sold on Amazon 4 Nov. 2013

Bamboo Nature switched their diaper around July/August 2013 -to a thinner (I actually did purchase the new ones with different prints) However - it was not new and improved it was a leakier diaper-this made her prone to rashes. I complained to the company - no response. I cancelled my subscribe and save and I was so very disappointed because they were so great initially. But alas, I found a better diaper. See Andy Pandy - I am currently using these...and they are far superior.

Here is my original review (June 1013) when they started transitioning to their "new" diaper. It went off subscribe and save and came back a different diaper in August of 2013. I am sorry that my review is long but understand that this diaper has transitioned in a inferior manner:

I usually prefer cloth diapers - but with 2 kids I am now a hybrid diaper : cloth and eco-friendly disposable. I have actually ordered off the actual bamboo-website and received diapers from them and it seems that the ones off their own website are different then Amazon's version or they have gone through a change in the last month. I do not know what has happened but these have gone through a substantial modification: smell wise and thickness. If you have never ordered or used Bamboo-Nature before one probably would not know the difference - but to those of us who have - these are definitely different. First, they stink when she urinates - never has happened before and it smells as through she's eaten asparagus (I thought she had a UTI - no seriously this is what it smelled like). I then smelled the diaper out of the package and yes it's the diaper. Old ones - no smell. Now I wonder what is in these diapers for this horrible chemical smell? What new chemicals? This is suppose to be an allergy free diaper and I who is allergic to nada can't fathom the smell?? Second, these new ones are not as thick - my daughter is 7mos and a normal wetter - I noticed them leaking yesterday near leg region (older diapers never had this problem). I still have some old ones in my diaper bag and there is no comparison - old version was thicker. It's sad when you trust a company, especially one in Europe (Denmark) not sacrifice for the old bottom dollar/Euro - but it seems this company has done just that. I always believe in the expression "don't fix if it's not broke"...Should not have ever messed with it as it sacrifices the quality and integrity of the company and their products. I am going to call the company to pardon the expression "get to the bottom" of this and give them my two cents. But for now I will not subscribe through Amazon. I will update once I call the company.
