Sled dog Balto may have retired in this second sequel to Balto, but our hero's sense of compassion and keen intellect have not diminished with time. When a new flying machine makes an appearance in the small Alaskan towns of Nome and White Mountain, it looks as if Kodi (Balto's son who is now a sled dog in his own right); the rest of the dog team, and their human Mushers will shortly be stripped of their duties as mail carriers. Refusing to be dismissed without a fight, the dogs and their Mushers challenge pilot Duke to a race and call Balto out of retirement to lead the team. When bad weather causes unexpected problems for the plane, it's up to the wise and courageous Balto to save Duke from certain death. An amusing sub-plot features Boris, a snow goose who's afraid of heights, and Stella, a seductress goose who's bent on winning Boris's affection. Voice talent featured in this 79-minute, animated program includes Sean Astin, Jean Smart, Keith Carradine, Kathy Najimy, and David Paymer. (Ages 3 to 10) --Tami Horiuchi

Product Description

Animated adventure about a sled dog team, led by the adventurous husky, Balto. Balto begins to worry that the sled team is under threat, as more and more people are relying on aeroplanes to deliver the mail. A race is set up to see who can deliver the mail fastest - Balto's team, or one of the new bush pilots. But when Balto's team wins the race with no sign of the pilot, he begins to suspect the worst, and leads the gang on an epic adventure to rescue him and bring him home.

4.0 out of 5 stars Balto 3: A good Buy 18 Aug 2005
By Mona
Format:DVD
If you saw the first film, you would understand that Balto is one of the most fantasically unknown animated films of all time. If you saw the second Balto film, you would know that Balto 2 is one of the most awful sequels ever. But if you see this Balto film, your respect for Balto will be restored. It is not as good as the orignal, of course, but it is a definate improvement on the second.
Balto 3: Wings of Change is about another of Balto's puppies, a male one called Kodi. Kodi and his friends deliver the mail to a far away small village called Nome, Alaska. But when a pilot called Duke turns up in his flash plane, there is question whether they should let the dogs continue to deliver the mail, or give in to the pressure of modernisation and let the plane deliver the mail, and in doing so, putting many out of there jobs. The only way to decide which is faster and more convinient, is to have a race between the dogs sledge and the plane. Of course, all the dogs of Nome want Balto to lead the dogs, so they can beat the bush plane. The race starts and amazingly the dogs win!...but only because the plane crashed! Now it's up to Balto the save the pilot, but with his son refusing to go with him, it looks as if he's on his own...

Emotionally it is a beautiful film. Balto is desperate to win the race as not to let down his son, and the whole town.

The animators have worked really hard to make this film as much like the first as possible, including cameo apperance of the orignal characters and charatcers actually acting like they did in the original. Also the colours are much more like the first one, and the landscapes and background designs are breath taking. Also the songs are very good as well.

Buy the whole Balto triology, you won't regret it, but prepare for a let down when you watch the second one, but don't worry, your faith in Balto will be redeemed after seeing the triquel in the Balto series! A definate for kids!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok but not great 29 April 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Balto 3 is not as good as the second sequel in my opinion. Balto looks much much older, and the plot wasn't the best one they have done. Not saying this film is bad, because its far from it, however there are many improvements that could be made. Overall a good film but not as good as the first two. Anyone who says that second one isn't good, is wrong, the second Balto is great for the kids, and is a lovely film. So overall this film is good with Baltos other pup, but not as good as the first or second.
