Product Description

Animated tale based on a true story. Balto (voiced by Kevin Bacon) is a half husky, half wolf who does not seem to fit into either family. He becomes a hero when a diptheria epidemic and blizzard combine to threaten the lives of the children of Nome, as he has to lead a team of sled-dogs over 600 miles to obtain the life-saving medicine.

From Amazon.co.uk

Buried like a bone in a snowdrift, Balto never achieved the theatrical success it should have, but it's worth digging up. The film is structured on the true tale of a lead sled dog, Balto, that brought a diphtheria antitoxin to the small town of Nome, Alaska. The film balances comedy, villainy and drama very well and the voice work is above average. This is safe family viewing, as even the villain's comeuppance manages a civilised resolution. --Keith Simanton, Amazon.com

Balto is based on the true story of a half-wolf half-husky called Balto. Balto is an outcast in his home town of Nome, and is singled out by movie villian and husky race champion Steele. When Diptheria hits the children of Nome, the fastest dogs are sent to fetch the anti-toxin...with Steele as the lead dog. When Steele and his team get lost at their second checkpoint, Balto goes after them, along with his friends Boris, the russian snow goose, Muk and Luk, the loveable polar bear cubs, and Jenna, the beautiful husky. Can Balto find Steele and the team in time, and can he prove to Nome that he is capable of fitting into society? You'll have to watch it to find out...
I really loved this film because of its mix of action, cunning, and the occasional surpriser as well...even though it's a kids film, I know that all ages will enjoy it. If you really want a good film to add to your colletion, I would definately reccomend this. Balto is a film that will steal your heart through a mix of great music and spectacular story-telling. My favourite scene is the white wolf scene. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Balto is a outcast in Nome, Alaska in 1925. He is a wolf/husky mix and because of this he is forced to live outside the town he wants so much to be a part of. Only his close friends, Jenna (a female husky) and Boris (a russian snow goose) see his true nature. And when a dipheria eppidemic breaks out, he has the chance to prove himself...but he must over come his emotions with the wolf side as well as Steele (an Alaskan malimute) who will not give him the chance he needs.
Balto is a fantastic film. There are no out breaks of song and dance every five minutes like so many animated films. The animation is spot on. The animators have got the movment of the dogs very life like. The acting is great, and with actors like Kevin Bacon, its a real treat. Also it is based on a true story, Balto was real and even though the film isnt exact, its still a nice thought. This film has so many plus factors, it would spoil it to list them. Its a shame it didnt make it so well at the cinemas. My only quarrel with this movie is that it wasnt longer....I wanted more! But at 1.20 hours, its a good length and with a sequel on its way, theres still more there to come. Buy this film....

It's one of the greatest films I ever seen, I just can't stop watching it. It tells the story of the great serum run on the Iditorod trail, which to this day still takes place. The story unfolds around the courageous attempts of Balto the Husky and his fight to get the serum back to the children of Nome.

I loved Balto it was an amazing movie the music was amazing the animation was very good.
I think that people should buy it because it is an amazing family movie which the kids will love.
The movie is about a half wolf half husky outcast in Alaska named Balto. In 1925 a disease hits the people of Nome Alaska and many children fall ill and then even worse news there is no more anti toxin. Balto has allways been a outcast then he meets Jenna a beatiful red and cream coloured husky who he falls in love with. A team of huskys go out to collect the Anti toxin and then they return home but get lost in the storm. Balto goes out into the storm to find them. He finds them to return as a hero he becomes a legends endin the story with the credits which has brillant music
The Voices of Kevin Bacon as Balto
Bridget Fonda as Jenna
the family will love it

Balto is the best romantic and sad movie that I have ever seen. I think it has this little touch to it that moves everyone and that's why it's the best movie I have ever seen in my whole entire life, and it will always be my most favorite movie in the wide world.

Not only does this film tell a true story but it captures all the hearts of those who do watch it.
The story does wander a bit given that Balto is portrayed as being a wolf hybrid when in real life he was pedigree Siberian Husky (not that it matters as children will love the story all the same!)
This is a must-watch for any dog lover especially those with Siberian Huskies (like me) as the film celebrates the dogs who willingly lost their lives for the sake of the children suffering from diptheria. And at the end it also shows the statue of Balto in Central Park, New York City, NY as another reminder of the amazing dogs involved in such a terrific tale.
This is a timeless classic and I would be truly surprised if anyone was to say otherwise.
Watch and enjoy...

Based on a true story, balto follows the adventure of a half wolf half husky who wants to prove his worth to himself, to the other huskies and the towns folk. When the children of the town become ill, the only way to get medicine to them is by sledge led by huskies, but when the team goes missing, balto takes it upon himself to find the missing sled team and deliver the medicine.
There are lots of nice plot twists and plenty of humorous moments as well as perils and villains. I would recommend this film to children, especially those who love dogs or to anyone who is child at heart and loves a good story, like myself.
