Debut album from exciting new jazz vocalist Laura Collins, supported by a stellar UK band, including the excellent trumpeter Dick Pearce.
It's no wonder that, since turning professional a year ago, Laura Collins has been creating a huge buzz. A sophisticated singer with style and wit to boot, her work takes her around Britain, winning hearts and minds. She has performed with UK jazz greats including Bruce Adams, Alan Barnes, Andy Cleyndert and Dave Cottle. Laura's sound has been likened to the Norwegian singer Radka Toneff. Her main singing influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Annie Ross and Norma Winstone. What results is a magical blend of old and new.

Format:Audio CD
There are so many new singers about these days you have to offer something different to make an impact. With Laura Collins it is a fresh approach to some old standards along with an intelligent approach to some newer material.
She has been selective in her choice of backing musicians, Barry Green is particularly outstanding on piano, never being intrusive and his solo on "Too close for comfort" is a stunner. Hoagy Carmichael's "Baltimore Oriole" doesn't get too many outings and was inspired choice with another excellent solo from Barry Green and there is some fine drumming from Matt Skelton.I found "How deep is the ocean" a little dirge like but it is enlivened by an incisive solo from Dick Pearce whose three contributions to the album are to be treasured.
"Wichita Lineman" becomes a different song in the capable hands of Laura Collins and stretches her vocal ablities to the full.For me the standout track of the album is "Go away little boy" backed only by the bass of Jeremy Brown this is an emotional performance by the singer.
Laura Collins is to be congratulated on a first class debut album, she has learnt much from her mentor Lee Gibson and the trick now is to polish her individual approach so that she stands out from the many other singers on the scene.

Format:Audio CD
Laura Collins is dead classy. Forget musical theatre, Glee, and all that electronically modified pop - this is true music in it's purest form. Even if you don't like jazz there is something here for you. Colourful arrangements, well played and well sung. Beautiful.
