3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre 8 Aug 2011
By R. C. Harris TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
The story line looked good, with some well known actors. The fact it was based on fact seemed a real plus. It was about the sinking of the Ferry Estonia in 1994 and the cover up that involved a number of Governments. It promised a good evening viewing...

But oh dear, I think I'd best describe it as mediocre. The standard of acting in places was surprisingly poor, wooden and more reminiscent of a B picture circa 1960s/ 70s. Not sure whether it was the directing at fault or just a poor script? The plot crept along slowly and the so called politics of the sinking lacked credibility. Yes, I stuck it to the end but it never really gripped me. Maybe I lost concentration but I wasn't even actually all that sure of the ending, it sort of petered out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Greta Scacchi, Donald Sutherland 23 Jan 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is a very engaging film. It charts the lone fight of a survivor of a wrecked ferry to find what happened to his son and also his quest to find out who or what was responsible for the so called 'accident' at sea and why so many lives were lost. Greta Scacchi as an invesigative journalist takes him to heart and risks all to find out the truth behind the sinking of the ship. She encounters heavy resistance all along the way from employers, family and friends, authorities and even the FBI (Donald Sutherland is fantastic in his role and is really sinister). However, she maintains the crusade, determined to get all the answers and get to the truth. Baltic Storm is highly watchable and very good value for money.

For me, this is likely the truth about the sinking of the MS Estonia in the Baltic sea with the loss of almost 1,000 lives.

There is a little dramatic license for the purposes of making a film, but the major facts remain that this was likely not just an accident.

I would recommend this film, your not likely to see it on TV anytime soon ;-)

I am not normally a fan of "conspiracy" stories but this one has some real teeth to it.

Why is the wreck site so closely guarded, why did Sweden try to bury the wreck in rocks...when has that ever been done before? So why here?!

The story just never added up and the person that wrote this is a reporter who investigated this story at great danger.

Sometimes, even when we appear to be at peace, things have to be done to keep that peace, sometimes they are not nice things, but 1,000 lives is an awfully high price to pay.

Watch it, make your own mind up.
