Having only gone to Estonia I can't fully comment on the other languages covered but I did find it extremely usefull. The phonetics are fantastic as it means you don't have to memorise the alphabet so much. Downsides: it would have been usefull to have a small dictionary of the most common words with it and it can sometimes appear a bit scattered (Nothing that bookmarks can't overcome though!)

A fantastic little book. The phonetics section is invaluable when you have my level of foreign lagnuage skills, god knows what crimes I would have committed to the baltic languages without it. Well laid out and hardwearing, which is just as well as if you're anything like me you'll be refering to it everytime you need to communicate.

We took this phrase-book on a trip through Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and it provided all that we needed. Each language section has a handy summary box at the beginning with the most useful phrases, followed by pronunciation guides and more phrases. There is also information on the grammar - we didn't use this, but if you were planning to stay for longer and get to know a bit more of the language it could be useful.

The only minor criticisms are that the page tabs are all the same colour - this is probably to save money, but the practise of other phrasebooks to tab each language in a different colour would have made it easier to jump straight to the correct section. Also the phrases translated are not the same in every language - it was a little frustrating at one point to find the phrase we wanted translated into Estonian and Lithuanian but not Latvian, when we were in Latvia at the time. Having said that, nearly everyone we met spoke English anyway!
