5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, 18 Jul 2008
By John (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
Alexander Frater has switched seamlessly into a new genre. I have followed his travel books with real pleasure. He uses his same colourful attention to detail to bring this wonderful book alive. This is a book that will be enjoyed by everyone, not just those interested in flight. Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disjointed waffle, 16 Dec 2008
This book joins the very small list of books that I threw away without finishing it. What could have been a fascinating read was totally wrecked by the author's rambling, disjointed writing style. Half of the book seems to be about the author's travels whilst researching the book including such trivia as who he met, what they looked like, what they were wearing, etc. Without all this waffle the book would be half the size but proably a much better read.

Overall a huge dissappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read
I loved the book, great stories and tales about the early pioneers of flight in the UK. Even though I am no expert on aviation, I found the book capitivating and as good as... Read more
