5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous music 24 Nov 2008
By Teemacs TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Russian composers from Glinka to Shostakovitch wrote some of the most tuneful, colourful, downright enjoyable music ever written, the sort of stuff that has you moaning along in your listening chair. This CD brings together some of the highlights from this period. Of course, there's a lot missing - just think of all those brilliant tunes in the Tchaikovsky ballets - but this is as fine a representative sample as you'll get. Nicely played and recorded too. Arise, go forth, and groan along.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best of Russian classical music 30 Aug 2008
By Per Larsen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
No other country in the world have produced as many great composers as Russia. Russian Dances and Ballets contains many famous and well known compositions and still it is only the top of the iceberg. Listening to this compilation is a great way to discover the world of Russian classical music or at least a part of it. If you want more, look for Rachmaninov, Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov among others, who are not represented on Russian Dances and Ballets.
This CD is among my favourites at work, at home, on the go.....
Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 2; Paganini RhapsodyMussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition; Night on the Bare Mountain [Hybrid SACD]Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade/Capriccio Espagnol
