Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It's not easy being a child of a god. In Baldur's Gate 2: Shadow of Amn, your character quickly comes to this conclusion after being imprisoned and tortured by a wizard with an unhealthy interest in your parentage. So begins this ambitious RPG based on the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game. Shadow of Amn develops the plot lines, characters and events introduced in the first game into a mature, genuinely interesting fantasy tale and you will be pleasantly surprised by Shadow of Amn's bold story arcs. Baldur's Gate served as a proving ground for the refined game mechanics evident in Shadow of Amn. Now major events are afoot, and the character's choices have a real impact on the universe of the Forgotten Realms.

The game's artificial intelligence has been vastly improved, and the player has many more choices for NPC AI scripts and party communication. Keeping with Shadow of Amn's more mature theme, the party interaction even goes so far as to include possible love interests for your character.

This double pack also includes the BG2 expansion pack, Throne of Bhaal. There are hordes more monsters to fight, a couple of new classes and kits to explore (the Wild Mage, for example), new treasures and artefacts, new quests and new dungeons and the ability to reach an unprecedented Level 40. Why wouldn't you want to meet strange new creatures, unleash strange new spells and listen to even more bizarre voice acting from the lovable Minsc? But the real reason to get this is to see the massive story finally reach a conclusion. There won't be a Baldur's Gate III and Throne of Bhaal lets you see the fate of the character that began as Gorion's young ward so many years ago in the original Baldur's Gate.

A strong plot backed by strong technology makes Baldur's Gate 2 and the Throne of Bhaal expansion stand out as one of the best RPGs you'll ever play. Fans of the AD&D game will love the classic AD&D feel, and fans of the popular Forgotten Realms setting will delight in the people, places and politics found here.--Kelly Harrode

5.0 out of 5 stars Baldurs Gate 2 12 Mar 2003
What can I say? This has to be the best thought out, written and acted RPG out there. To say that this is my favourite game is an understatement!

The sheer 'open-endedness' of this game makes it possible to go anywhere, do anything and do it when you want to. It allows for character developement, opportunites to explore and much more. It really makes you value your characters simulated life. The oppourtunites are endless

I have spent so many hours playing this game and exploring and I am still to find and do everything in this game. Don't feel like doing a quest? Then don't! Go do something elses instead! Like I said, endless opportunities.

All in all I think this is a shining example of how to do something and do it right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!! 31 May 2003
By A Customer
Does the title say it all ?? YES Baulder's Gate marks a true land mark in gaming; both in the quality and depth of the experience offered . This epic game allows for character development and change within a go anywhere do anything enviroment.
Become the most powerful mage ever with terrible death magic that can wipe out an entire room of umberhulks in one utterance or the most skillful thief who sees life as one huge chance to get filthy rich , this game allows it all , your ability to control a group of six adventurs allows you to balance the groups strengths and weaknesses with a mix of pure dwarfen strength and elfish magic your group can take on anything !! which is just as well as the level and type of creature's waiting for your merry band is so varied and vile that even a group at the end of the quest and all on the top few levels can still get ripped apart if you fail to prepair. If hack and slash is your thing forget this game but if you love ADD on paper and want to take time to plan battles through using core ADD rules and magic you could not find a better gamming experince, the nonlinear nature of this game , the vast number of quests the ability to change your group make this a game for all time .
Prepare for loss of sleep , sore eyes and a numb bum this ones going to get hold of you and it won't let go!!.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a truly awesome game... 26 July 2004
By A Customer
Baldur's Gate II has a complex game engine and takes a bit of geting used to, which is a good thing, I find if i sit down with a new game and it's all simple hack and slash I'll have the TV back on after 10 mins. The Plot follows on perfectly from Baldurs Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast and you can even continue with your old character. Baldurs Gate II allows for massive levels and will allow your character to climb to awesome power. The gameplay is perfect, AI is good, the Plot is pure genius, graphics are beautiful and It's basically an all round game that's UNMISSABLE!!!
