5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, profound, awesome... 2 Feb 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I don't buy much music in today's terrible economy but this was one of the few albums I did, sound of rum are simply amazing and I hope they inspire millions just as they have me. Kate especially, her voice really grows on you and her lyrics feel like candy for the soul, awesome stuff. This album was worth every penny and I wish sound of rum all the best in spreading their message - for the good of humanity!...If there is any humanity left! Maybe if the lyrics are heard in this masterpiece the humanity might reignite...Hopefully. Peace!

Kate Tempest and crew weave it together beautifully - her words and energy are wonderful as always, supported by minimal flowing music. Go see her live at any chance you get - she's an amazing lady

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongly Recommended! 14 Feb 2012
Format:Audio CD
This is the first review I have ever bothered to write on Amazon; this album is superb and deserves as wide an audience as possible.

Kate Tempest is a young, white, female rapper from South London. She is also a dazzling and stunningly articulate poet (search Youtube for her videos "Renegade" and "Teens Speech" for examples). She quotes major influences as The Wu Tang Clan and William Blake.

This is the debut album of her band, The Sound of Rum. With the tough, gritty nature of London life as a backdrop, Tempest's lyrics are intelligent, inspirational, insightful, beautiful and funny.

If you thought Eminem could spit a fast, complex rap then wait till you hear Tempest. This girl is incredibly talented and due to go a long way. The band are fantastic, the production slick and every song is strong.

The stand-out track for me is Concrete Pigeon; on which Tempest is joined by another excellent rapper, Polar Bear. This is, literally, one of the best songs I've heard in years, in any genre of music.

Buy this album! You will not regret it. I've listened to it hundreds of times since I bought it. And I'm not even a rap fan.
