Before I discovered James Holden, I thought that for something to be "progressive" it had to be monotonous and boring. James opened my eyes with tunes like "Nothing" and "A Break In The Clouds", so I of course sought out his older mixes and productions. Then this double CD popped onto the scene via Australia, catching me by surprise.

WOW is all I can say. So many mixes purport to be "a sublime blend of deep house, progressive, trance, and techno", but this is the only one I've heard that pulls it off. Deep basslines in some tracks compliment gorgeous melodies in others, with intricate, almost "micro-house" drum programming in places.

One Sunday I listened to disc one of this mix three times, and I'm not a person to do that. This mix is very close to perfection.

One of the best mixes of any genre I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Bought it in Australia four years ago and I still listen to it. If you haven't bought it yet do it now! Its a timeless mix and still sounds as fresh as the first time I played it.

its a grower 18 July 2006
Format:Audio CD
I wasn't that impressed with this release on the first listen. I was expecting to be blown away immediately after all the praise this mix has received, and i was rather disapointed. I thought it kind of just pldded along in a pretty uninteresting way. But I listened again, and then again, and again, and suddenly I found myself reaching for it regularly over a lot of other progressive trance / house mixes that I own. I can't quite put my finger on why that is, obviously track selection and mixing is top notch, but there is an illusive 'X' factor as well.

I have to say that I listen to CD1 way more than CD2 and while CD2 is good, I'd say it was no more interesting that most other mixes out there at the moment. CD1 is far superior in terms of track selection, dipping only with 'Do what you want' (why is there always at least one vocal track on these mixes)

It was released on an Australian label, so its harder / more expensive to get hold of a copy in europe, but if you are into Prog trance / house, then u NEED this in your collection.

Just spot-on.
I vowed a while back, perhaps harshly, not to rate any progressive releases higher than 4 stars simply because they weren't Nick Warren's GU Shanghai. Read more

Gary Numan meets The Grid.......?
This is a cracking selection of synth, prog trance and electrophreek tracks, some of which pay more than a little cursory heed to the 1980's and early '90's. Read more
