Product Description

Product Description

Despite being a relative newcomer to the scene, having been founded in the 50s by a Dutch TV and Electric Razor manufacturer, Philips records still managed to release an enviable output of records. Artists such as Johnny Hallyday and The Springfields shine while The Corona Kids and Ben & Bea show their music output was just as varied as the other avenues Philips chose to do business.

Format: Audio CD
BAD BAD WOMAN GEMS FROM PHILLIPS RECORDS USA 1962 as 50 original recordings spread over 2 Cds.
These sets really are a steal at this price.

The simple reason that these sets are as cheap as chips is that the tracks are public domain.

That means the rights to the music has gone and any old Dick or Harry can release them.

The bad news for the previous rights holders means good news for us, the buyers for if the price is too high we will not buy.
So the sets are at a more than reasonable price.
Next year the law changes to fall in line with the Americans and the 50 year rule will be finished.

Now these sets really are a mixed bag.

Some tracks and artists you will know- others not.

But that is the real joy- you just might discover some tracks you have never heard and enjoy if not then the FF feature is just for you.

However if you are like me and of a certain age you want to read which artists and tracks are featured but Amazon have scrunched up all the tracks making it hard to read so I've spaced them out so you can read them more easily.

This revised list should help?

The worst thing about all these One Day CDs is the one liner sleeve not.Possibly this is the worst one ever as the only info is about the most obvious names which no one needs to know more.
With a singer here named as Sonny Martin this is not the singer who recorded for at least 6 labels but is actually a female. On Global Dog the name is correct but why is it not Sunny or Sonia? Because of this the singer can't be found on the Internet Not even the known names have any info and with the B side of Hey Paula included as well its sloppily selected especailly opening up with a total nothing song by Bob Corso which sound like a Coasters offday and also brings up another problem with this series-why the stupid subtitles?

If I can look all the other names up why can't they get a sleeve note writer who can do likewise?
Presumably the U S Philips label began 6 years after ours but no explanation is given. The first single was Ben & Bea's version of Let The Good Time's Roll again including the B side. The label also issued the Corona Kids single of The Big Ship Sails On The Alley Alley O-one of the highlights here-as it was on the soundtrack of A Taste Of Honey.
The Clifters are Swedes and Shani Wallis is another of the singers from muicals whose singles and albums were mainly issued in the States
Rather annoying when you check the listing on Global Dog and see what's missing
They need Stuart Coleman not some upstart to mislead people

A very good collection of oldies, which is good to reminisce with. Good value for money.

NOT WHAT THE "EDITORIAL REVIEW" SAYS!!! 29 Nov. 2013
By Margaret C. Farrell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
PLEASE NOTE: the "Editorial Reviews" section belongs to "The Okeh Blues Story" (an excellent collection), NOT to this one. I've advised Amazon several times, but they have not seen fit to change the information. This cd is very different from the Okeh album in that is almost completely '60's white "rock"/rockabilly. I have no objection to Paul and Paula, but they are a very far cry from Blind Lemon Jefferson!
Please take my rating as a reflection of my personal tastes; you may love it!
