Amazon.co.uk Review

As any kid who's ever forcibly shot milk through their nasal passages can testify, the key to a great gross joke isn't so much the content as it is the delivery. The proudly crass Bad Teacher certainly has great big gobs of greasy, grimy potential, chief among them its central performance by an exceedingly game Cameron Diaz, but it occasionally fails to nail the dismount. This film from director Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) is exactly what the title says: after getting dumped by her rich boyfriend, a lying, cheating, and perpetually boozing middle-school teacher (Diaz) hatches a scheme to con her school out of enough money to pay for cosmetic surgery, while squaring off against the aggressively cheerful teacher across the hall (a very funny Lucy Punch). Lessons are not learned, thankfully. Although the title and attitude recall the effortlessly filthy Bad Santa, Bad Teacher feels more like a spiritual sequel to Diaz's earlier Sweetest Thing, a women-can-be-gross-too comedy that spent more time congratulating itself on how far it was willing to go instead of actually going there. While Bad Teacher certainly has its number of belly laughs and worthy outrages (particularly during a hilariously awkward love scene between Diaz and a nerded-up Justin Timberlake), it's hard not to end up with a general feeling of missed opportunities. Too often, it toes the bad-taste line, when it should be jumping over it with a rocket cycle. --Andrew Wright

DVD Description

Some teachers just don’t give an F. For example, there’s Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz). She’s foul-mouthed, ruthless and inappropriate. She drinks, she gets high, and she can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. When she’s dumped by her fiance, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome subsititute (Justin Timberlake), competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). When Elizabeth also finds herself fighting off the advances of a sarcastic, irreverent gym teacher (Jason Segel), the consequences of her wild and outrageous schemes give her students, her coworkers, and even herself and education like no other.

Light and funny 31 Dec 2011
By Heligan
Format:DVD
A light and funny movie, not brilliant, but not bad either. Cameron Diaz is fabulous as the wickedly bad teacher, although my favourite character is the horrendously awful Amy Squirrel. As usual there is some profanities which are wholly un-necessary, however, this seems to be de rigeur for these type of movies.
Buy it and enjoy it.

C+ MUST TRY HARDER 1 Nov 2011
By Jules TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
The "Bad Teacher" of the title role is Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz -There's Something About Mary) who is a gold digging beauty looking for a man, a man with wealth that is, so she can quit teaching & spend his money on herself. The film Starts out with her goodbye message in the schools end of year informal teachers meeting, where she is quitting her job, as she is about to marry a millionare. However when she gets home, she finds the man & his Mother waiting in ambush, where they rumble her scheme & send her packing.

She gets her job back teaching English during the day, while she is cruising bars for single rich men at night & early morining, then turning upto class, sticking on a video for the kids(who she doesnt know any the names of) as she sleeps off a hangover & only having had a couple hours sleep. However, luck maybe on her side as new teacher Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake -The Social Network) who happens to be minted, falls into her lap. However he seems more interested in fellow (quirky) teacher Amy Squirrel (Lucy Punch -Dinner for Schmucks) who likes him & is very critical about Miss Halsey's approach to teaching. Just what lengths is she prepeared to goto , to get her man ?!

Overall this film is quite fun to watch for adults, it certainly has its moments. Diaz gave a very confident performance, and her care less attitude worked really well, and i think some will enjoy simply seeing her talking dirty & looking sexy(as usual). There is one bloody hilarious scene with Diaz & Timberlake, but i wont give it away. Elsewhere the lesser known acting pair of Lucy Punch & Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) are really good support in this film, and make it work allot better, i was impressed with them.

In conclusion, although it does have it's genuine funny moments here & there sprinkled through the film, it's not a film i will go back & see again too often. This is very much similar ground to Diaz's breakthrough role in Theres Something about Mary, which if you havent seen already, I would highly reccomend watching that instead of this tbh. Bad Teacher is Ok for a laugh, but i wouldnt fully Reccomend it.

Bad Teacher is not a bad movie but it's not that good either. The idea behind the film is actually very good 'thirty-something woman wants to marry for money and live the jet-set life but ends up teaching...for all the wrong reasons', and Cameron Diaz is perfect for the role. Justin Timberlake puts in a good performance as the 'target' of her affections whilst Jason Segel shines in his role as the ever optimistic aging gym coach. So it should make a great movie...but it doesn't quite work. It never really goes all the way, even though several of the characters do their best to go OTT. Though funny in places it's not often enough to make this a memorable comedy and it could so easily have been a serious cautionary tale about the fickle nature of romance and abuse of cosmetic surgery to seek power. On both counts it doesn't quite go far enough. For me, Cameron Diaz was just that little too old to pull it off and Justin Timberlake's character was too weird and unbelievable. For entertainment value it's worth a viewing but I fear it is not a film that will live long in the memory.
