John Redford - a fellow of the Maryvale Institute in Birmingham - gives a thorough overview of the issues connected with the historical Jesus debate, from a catholic viewpoint. Fr John takes all scholarship very seriously and values the contributions from all sources, but argues very persuasively for the divinity of Christ from the evidence of St John's Gospel. It is tightly argued, clearly stated and a compelling read for anyone familiar with the debate. Highly Recommended.

This book is simply brilliant. Of all my theology books this easily ranks amongst the best. This is a thorough, sound up-to-date, work on Christology (who Jesus is). It isn't light, pop theology but it is accessible, meaty, in depth stuff. Don't be put off by the front cover. If you are interested in studying theology and want to know what good theology looks like: read this book. So if you want to know why Christians believe that Jesus is God made man and why we should take John's gospel seriously, read this.
