Book Description

17 Jun 2010
This debut novel by David Safier follows the trials and tribulations of Kim Karlsen, a television personality whose career obsession brings her some serious cosmic repercussions. In her quest to dominate the airwaves, Kim cheats on her husband, neglects her daughter, and mistreats her staff. It all seems worth it when she wins the biggest German Television Award, but sadly on the very same night she is crushed to death by debris falling from a Russian space station. At the gates of Heaven, she is informed that she has collected too much bad karma in her life, and has a long road of atonement ahead. Reincarnation as an ant teaches her a few lessons in humility, and she experiences existence as a guinea pig and as a beagle before regaining human form just in time to sabotage the marriage of her husband to her back-stabbing best friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly funny read ! 24 Aug 2010
By Yuli
Format:Hardcover
This was a really funny book, with a plot that kept me riveted, the story starts off in such a way that you cant help but carry on reading.....
I ve often wondered how I would react in the cicumstances brought up in this book, hopefully not always in the same way as Kim lange and I must add that the narrative had me in stitches on the bus, in the passenger seat of my sisters car, as I walked trying not to hit any lamp posts and step in any dog poo. I would definitely recommend this book and this is my first time reading david safier, definitely wont be my last.
you must read this book..I LOVED IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most original books I've ever read 24 Sep 2010
By Jackie
Format:Hardcover
Bad Karma is a funny, but thought provoking book about discovering the important things in life. Kim, the central character, is crushed to death by debris from a Russian space station and due to the fact that she mistreated her staff, ignored her daughter and cheated on her husband she is reincarnated as an ant:

Krttx glared after the. `Stupid males!' she snarled. `They're totally useless!'

That, I reflected, was a remark you often heard from human females.

`The only thing they can do is mate with the Queen.' Krttx growled.

That, I reflected, was a remark you didn't so often hear from human females.

I stared after the flying ants. I was so inundated with sensory impressions, I didn't even hear Krttx cussing. Which was unfortunate, because if I had I would have heard her shout: `Move, or I'll bite you in the backside!'

`OUCH!' I yelped and lurched into action again.

Kim then goes on to be reincarnated several times - coming back as a guinea pig, a dog and even an earth worm. The animal point of views were realistic and insightful, but also highly amusing. It was great to see everyday human objects described from the the point of view of tiny insects. The only downside is that I now feel a bit bad about spraying "the Great Mist" at them!

Kim slowly realises what a terrible human being she was and makes an effort to become kinder, building up her karma so that she can be reincarnated as as more intelligent animal. It was only while reading this book that I realised how comforting a belief in reincarnation is. I was surprised at how many important issues were raised during the course of such an amusing book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too silly 28 July 2011
By Ingrid
Format:Hardcover
This book is really too silly to be funny.
The cover is very nice and that was what made me pick up this book. But I wasn't fascinated by the story even though I thought reincarnation could be a funny plot for a book. The author has no clue or knowledge about the animals he uses in the story - why couldn't he just have done some simple research, that alone would have made the story way better - and the reincarnation story is so badly told that it just gets ridiculous. Nothing makes sense and the story is totally unbelievable. I liked the idea for the plot but I think this book is a good idea wasted.
This is really not my kind of book but I managed to read it so for that reason I'm giving it two stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Miserable 18 Jan 2011
By Cariad
Format:Hardcover
This is one of the worst books I have ever read. It is predictable and exceptionally boring. Buy and read at your own risk!
