This is an outstanding crime action thriller. Johnny Strong is convincing in the lead role of Sean Riley, a New Orleans cop who is assigned a grisly homicide case with a young Detective, Will Ganz (Kevin Phillips). Riley discovers that his old friend Colin (Sean Patrick Flanery) is involved in some way and has to figure out what his friend has gotten himself into whilst trying to solve the case.

The characters themselves tick quite a lot of boxes of what you would expect from a cop action thriller but there is more to them than these familiar archetypes. William Kaufman doesn't create a set of characters in his screenplay, he manages to create people who we can believe that they could exist. There are a few nice cameos from some well known actors of the past, Tom Berenger and Jurgen Prochnow stand out above all others. The film doesn't let up on the brutality, nor does it shy away from it. At it's core the film is a throwback to the crime films of the 70s and 80s, taking inspiration from the buddy cop genre with some of it's scenes. And yet the story is a very contemporary piece.

The action sequences are fantastic and with the exception of some of the blood hits there seems to be no CGI involved in their construction. When a car crashes, it really crashes which is a nice change. The scenery is fresh and different, mainly due to its New Orleans setting.

It's incredible to believe that this was an independent production because it has all the hallmarks and production value of a big budget action movie. William Kaufman seems to have put every cent they spent on the screen and he does so with a style that is very reminiscent of the Dirty Harry series mixed with Lethal Weapon.

This is a great action film. Loads of good guys under fire, bad guys getting taken out and well worth watching. I recommend this film.

This is a film by writer and director Will Kaufman (`The Prodigy') set in the seedy underworld of New Orleans and stars Johnny Strong (`The Fast and the Furious' and `Black Hawk Down') as Detective Sean Riley. He has a marriage that has gone south after the untimely death of his son through cancer, he is not afraid to break the rules and survives on his wits and prescription drugs. Basically he is a `cop on the edge' and I don't mean the guitarist from U2.

It kicks off as it means to go on with a full on shoot out involving some low life types who are holed up in a clap board house - and like the There Little Pigs, they should have gone for bricks, as all hell breaks loose. His partner gets hit and post shoot out he is paired up with Detective Will Gantz - Kevin Phillips (`Notorious'). Things take a turn for the nasty when a series of brutal torture slayings start to happen. Add to the mix Sean's old army buddy, Colin (Sean Patrick Flannery of `The Boondock Saints' - cult classic) who lets them know this is more than they can handle. As a full scale gang war kicks off things then really start to heat up. We also have Internal Affairs looking into some questionable tactics that Riley may have used in the past.

Where this really scores though is the action, it is done realistically and has a bullet count that `The A Team' would have been proud of, but these bullets actually do hit their targets. The acting is all top rate if a tad sensational at points, the clichés are all believable and the special effects really work. For movie anoraks also spot the bar they use is called The Boondock saint as an homage to Sean Patrick Flannery and that film, which is a must see by the way.
