Product Description

Review

I thoroughly enjoyed it (Bad Blood)...She writes superbly and maps modern family with pinpoint accuracy but her real strength lies in creating an atmosphere of weird creepiness within the everyday, this allows her to slowly ratchet the tension to screaming pitch. This book contains moments of real terror. Respect! ...I thought it was superb. (Celia Rees )

I didn't expect to enjoy this as horror is not a genre I read. But BAD BLOOD kept me reading into the late hours - it reminds me of the old British horror/suspense serials I used to enjoy on TV as a child in the Philippines - Roald Dahl's Tales of the Unexpected and Sunday Suspense Theatre. A dysfunctional family of four step-siblings end up on holiday in an old house full of secrets. They are swiftly caught up in a suspenseful series of spooky events that include a creepy doll sequence reminiscent of the Weeping Angel episode of Dr. Who. The writing is impressive, the story line gripping and there is there is more to the characters than one would expect from books of this genre. Highly recommended.

Amazing! 21 Jan 2010

I'd seen this book a few times but always dismissed it. Finally, I decided to give it a try and I'm pleased I did as it's the best book I've read in ages! The plot flows so well and with great characters I really did find myself turning page after page after page. I really didn't want to put it down. I visit the Lake District regularly and it was nice to read about the area but also with a bit of mystique attached to it.

For a teen novel even I was creeped in some places, I'd love to hear from a child who's read it. It really is an exciting novel full of mystery and suspense. Some aspects are obvious but I don't feel a teen reader would see these bits coming.

The only criticism I have is that it seemed to take me ages to get the family links right. You have 4 children, 2 belonging to the mother in the story and 2 belonging to the father and I kept getting the siblings and parents mixed up. However once I was about 20 pages or so into the story it all started to sink in.

All in all a fantastic read and one I'll be recommending to everyone! I'd love to (and will) read more by this author.

Chilling Tale 1 Nov 2007
By kehs TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Three children play a game, crossing out book characters names and making their dreams come true. But dreams can turn to nightmares, as the new family who move in discover. The new children find the books with the crossed out names, and decide to play the game. But they don't know the rules or what they are getting into until it's too late.
When Delilah the doll starts to move around on her own things start to get freakily terrifying. Then there's the mysterious guy who goes by the name of Fox, who is he and what does he want? This story has many twists and turns and will have your heart thumping as you turn the pages. A truly magnificent chilling read.
