I love Sheila O Flanagan novels and eagerly await the latest .....but this one is far from her best.
Darcey is a likeable 'anti heroine' but she doesnt inspire that much feeling towards her - just a passing tolerance, bordering on mild irritation, of her constant bumbling.
Nieve is so unlikeable from the word go, that like other reviewers, I couldnt have cared less what happened to her, my only wish being that she would have faded out of the story early on.
Unlike previous novels by this author, many of the secondary characters are so 'grey' as to be almost non existent, and sadly they therefore dont add the necessary background to the plot lines.
If you have never read Ms O Flanagan, DONT start with this one, try the earlier, and much better stories.
Here's to a return to top class writing with her next novel.

It was good, but she has written better.

I think possibly what may be lacking is that for a large portion of the book the two main characters Nieve and Darcey are a continent apart. Invariably this means that there is less opportunity for dialogue between the two. For my mind this is a pity as I think O'Flanagan's ability to bring characters alive through their dialogue is one of her strengths.

A story of 2 halves. I liked the character of Darcey and it was her story that kept me hooked. However the character of Nieve held little appeal so I found it hard to care about her eventual fate or what would happen to their friendship.

An enjoyable read, not her usual page turner, but recommended.

Am I just stupid but the ending was too abrupt, I almost thought I had got a book with the last 10 pages missing. Normally I love her books, this one left me feeling something was unfinished. Otherwise she is am amazing writer.
