At a bare minimum, I've boiled down essentials to help you get started in minimal time... because time is running out!

"Time is running out?" you're asking yourself? "Surely I don't need to start raising chickens, yet."

Yes, you do. There is a learning curve to raising chickens. It's not hard, but the sooner you start learning, the better off you'll be. You don't want to butcher your first chicken when you're cold, hungry and your hands are shaking. You don't want to wonder why your chickens aren't laying eggs when it really counts. Start learning today and have the confidence that you can put healthy, backyard-raised chicken eggs and meat on your family's table, in the worse case scenario.

In addition to my own experience raising chickens, I've consulted with long time chicken farmers, preppers and a "self-reliance farm" in Reno, Nevada to bring you just the essentials you need to get started. This is the best information from chicken owners of a variety of backgrounds. I've put together what I feel is the best short treatise on what you need to know about raising chickens in preparation for a SHTF event.

About the Author:

After living in several cities in several countries, Sobert Gummer came to the conclusion that the safest place for his family would be to move back to the United States and find a community of salt-of-the-earth people: Hard working people who worked in the trades and knew how to build stuff with their hands. Welders and mechanics and ex-military and ranchers and farmers.

So, he found himself a small community adjacent to a small city that has good air, clean water, low taxes, excellent gun laws and reasonably priced homes. And he and his family finally settled down to continue their prepper lifestyle.

Join him on this journey to discover the technologies, skills, tactics and strategies that will be needed to prepare for an uncertain future

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just For Preppers! 10 Dec 2013

This book gave me all the information I need to start raising chickens. We are recently transplanted from a suburban to a rural town and now that we have the room and the desire, we can start in the spring. "Backyard Chickens for Preppers" is concise and plain speaking, and has a lot of information in a small book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for the newbie Backyard Chicken Prepper. 16 Nov 2013

First time I read a book that I actually feel I can accomplish raising chickens. Very well written coming from someone that has done and continues to do this themselves instead of regurgitating information. Very easy to read and also reflects the authors personality which makes it a fun book to digest. I gave it 4 stars because I just don't give out 5 stars as my personality does not allow it. :)
