Product Description

Becci Coombes left for a trip of a lifetime with a rucksack that weighed 20 kilos, a pair of steel-toe capped boots and a cross-stitch kit of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

Across two continents she was burnt, bitten, stung, medically over-dosed, permanently lost and nearly drowned on a number of occasions, but she still found time to track down the perfect sticky toffee pudding recipe and learn how to crack a whip. She never finished the cross-stitch.

“At times this book made me laugh so much I nearly fell off my chair. The humour is wickedly accurate, the anecdotes hysterically funny, and the fascinating historical information and invaluable travel tips drip fed in a wonderfully digestible way. An essential for travellers - and a great read for anyone.”
Deborah Dooley, writer, journalist, columnist.

Sarah Baxter, Associate Editor, Wanderlust Magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A backpackers guide to laugh and survive 24 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A beautifully written book combining facts with real stories. It is nothing but a joy to read. I only wish I had had either this book or Becci in my pocket when I travelled around Asia and Australia. Full of fascinating tips and information it is a must in every backpack. Great recipes too so even if you're travel days are through you can either relive memories or create the tastes of foreign lands without travelling at all. I would encourage everyone about to embark on an adventure to read this book. Packed full of historical and cultrual facts, wrapped in humour and laden with snippets of invaluable advice. Great fun for everyone to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide 23 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an excellent travel guide that covers all the well known and not so well known backpacker hotspots that you would expect but is written in such a way that it becomes more of a hilarious count on human foibles than just a straightforward travel journal. Becci writes with such accurate and witty observation on what it's really like to backpack around that this book will resonate with seasoned travellers as well as as being an necessary item in every gap year student's rucksack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great memories of happy travels 23 Sep 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ridiculously funny travel memoirs around SE Asia and Australia. Becci has the wonderful skill of be able to write as if she were in the room chatting about her anecdotes. There is nothing dull or repetitive in the book. I've travelled over the same ground (a different era though) and it was charming to recall it.

Hilarious! Becci expertly captures the essence of the life of a young traveller in the 90's! A world before you could text your mum to let her know you had arrived safely! Every erstwhile explorer can identify with the love/hate relationship of 2 people compelled to satisfy their wanderlust. Delightful anecdotes blended with a piquant wit. Oh, and a concoction of top tips and regional recipes to boot! Loved it!

My days of backpacking are long gone and some 40 years since I was in Australia but I did enjoy reading this and Bex has a good sense of humour and I found it a very enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have to read it! 12 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a fab book! Well written and witty. Oh and full of interestign facts advice and recipes from around the globe. In the openign chapter I was there with you at Bangkok airport (well, while I was reading the book anyway) as for the Ferry to Penang - I was on that too with you - except that they showed Titanic. Not the best choice of film for a ferry in Asia, but it did while away the time.

In summary, if you have travelled in this region, read it - you will re-live your journey. If you are going to travel in this region, read it - and then think about the backpacker points you will notch up. Are there any for reading this book? I found it important to notch up backpacker points with books.
