DCI Monica Paniatowski really does come of age in this latest addition to the series. In the previous books to some extent she has been living in the shadow of her former boss Charlie Woodend, but now she is very much her own woman. The book opens with a bang and the pace never slackens at all. The wife of another detective is missing and Paniatowski is charged with finding her. But can she be found while she is still alive? The race is on! Old enmities surface, but such distractions only seem to provide the detective with even more impetus to solve the case. As is usual with Spencer the characters are well drawn and rounded. The plot is believable and it is written in such a way as to draw you in to the action. Highly recommended so enjoy the chase.
