Of the 3 English language CDs by Lisa Ekdahl, this is by far the weakest. It starts well with Stranger on Earth - a beautiful song, beautifully sung. Nature Boy has a bass heavy arrangement and goes on for far too long. The tempo ups with the foot tapper Now or Never. Laziest Girl in too is slow but cute and one of the better tracks. It Had to Be You sounds a bit out of tune to me but it's an easy listen. Down with Love is furiously paced and a welcome change of tempo. What is this thing etc is dark and quite sinister sounding. Tea for 2 is too slow. The Lonely One is another highlight. I get a Kick is a bit of a mess with the arrangement being completely at a different speed from the singing. It calms down and then has a very annoyingly long fade out. Just for a thrill is pleasant and laidback but Night & Day is too breathy and twee. The CD is rounded off with a seemingly endless instrumental.
When it works - tracks 1, 3, 4, 6 and 9 - it is as good as her other "standards" CD "When Did You Leave Heaven" but too many tracks drone on for too long with solos that go nowhere. It's worth a listen but buy one of the others instead.
