This book works well on a number of levels. First, it provides a number of ways to work with your deck which is excellent if you're a beginner or if you've got a new deck that you want to play with. Second, it describes a way of reading about past events that enables you to understand, process and accept what happened - a kind of therapy if you like. Third, it allows you to see how others read (it includes Back in Time readings by ten different tarot writers and creators), giving valuable insight into how different people relate to the cards.

The BIT (Back In Time) Method is illustrated throughout the book with BIT readings about personal experiences, books, tv and movies, and news stories. However, for me, the best bits are the readings about personal experiences - for example, Zach Wong's reading about a failed relationship was very moving and demonstrated the value of tarot in objectifying past events and emotions in order to better understand them and learn from them. It was also interesting to read Zach Wong's comments on the Revelations Tarot cards (the deck he designed) which he used to do the reading.

This is a book I think that is best read out of sequence. I dip into it, taking it a reading at a time. Janet Boyer has added commentary at the end of every reading and also - most helpful - a list of related questions which you can use to do your own BIT reading which is excellent if you're stuck for something to do with your cards. Ultimately, what this book offers is a new way to learn more about yourself - your past, the things that have shaped your life and that make you who you are today.
