Well, what can I say Alestorm have again created a work of art!

Having already created two fantastic albums CAPTAIN MORGAN'S REVENGE and BLACK SAILS AT MIDNIGHT this you would think would be hard to follow but NO this album continue's where BSAM left off.

Opener 'Back through' time is a fast paced sing a long brute of a song that is heavy to boot and captivate's all that Alestorm is all about, cruching guitars awesome drumming partying and generally having a good time. I would say on first listen it is a more guitar driven album but it has all the violin, accordion, whistles, keyboards to make it Alestorm.

One of my favourites already aswell as the title track has to be 'Scraping the Barrel' as there is a verse in it that has a jibe at people saying they will run out of things to sing about in the near future. But all I can say is that Alestorm's music is fresh they have a great mascot in Scurvy Steve and the artwork is brilliant!

Ever since I was a kid I have loved pirates and metal and now we have a band that can produce on both levels at a very compatent level indeed. Already looking forward to the next album and I would love to see them live. Also on the limited edition is a cover of the Wurzels - I AM A CIDER DRINKER which is awesome as being from Bristol myself I am a big Cider drinker and this caps off a great album.

Prior to the last CD at the time of the 'Leviathan' CD I wondered where next for Alestorm thinking that maybe the whole 'pirate folk' approach was leaving them with nowhere fresh to go...then along came 'Black sails' and I changed my opinion given the musical growth on that CD compared to the first...a growth which is further represented on this CD.
It's less Folk this time and far more rock giving the CD an enthusiastic zeal..it's not far removed from previous bits of work to be honest but I'm guessing if you already know the band and enjoy them that would be gratifying.
As such we get slabs of sea shanty type power metal delivered with some humour which I suspect will work well within a live setting..unlikely I guess to convert cynics but those with a love of this band will find a lot to enjoy on it.
Where next?....i've given up worrying whether the sound becomes harder or the folk influence takes to the fore next album around it matters little..this is music to be enjoyed not for ruminating over.

Scottish Pirate Metal? How's that for a genre?
How about if I also say that on this limited edition they do a cover of a song from the kids tv show Lazy Town? That's right, four angry Scots, who are also pirates, doing a heavy metal cover of 'You are a Pirate' from lazy town. If this is not reason enough to buy this album then you are clearly not human, and I ask you to remove yourself from my plain of existence at once...
