Without doubt this vol. 12 is one of the highlights of the BIS-cantata series ended 2013 (vol. 55). The cast includes just the same singers who later concluded the series, i.e. Blaze, Turk and Kooij. Hana Blazikova is at that time yet on her 'way to Japan' (we have here as soprano Yukari Nomoshita). There are so many fine moments in the disc that I just like to state that especially Blaze's arias in 'Herz and Mund' and Turk's in 'Ich hatte viel Bekummernis' make one listen to the disc repeatedly. Personally I found the cantata 21 rather than the more well-known BWV 147 more interesting; it really shows Bach's many faces (or roads not often taken by J.S). Hope we'll have this disc in SACD as well.

A superb cantata 147. Crisp, clear, both from the point of orchestral playing and choir/soloist performances. Highly recommended as part of any Bach Cantata collection. No point looking anywhere else than Amazon for a better collection of Bach Cantatas.

Bach: Cantatas Vol 12 (BWV 147, 21) /Bach Collegium Japan * Concerto Palatino * Suzuki 12 Dec 2010
By Bjorn Viberg - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Bach: Cantatas Vol 12 (BWV 147, 21) /Bach Collegium Japan * Concerto Palatino * Suzuki is a recording under the direction of Masakki Suzuki who leads the Bach Collegium Japan on this NEC and Lufthansa German Air sponsored BIS Records AB recording from 2000. Robin Blaze and Peter Kooij are simply put it brilliant and once more it is a pleasure to listen to their prowess. Tadashi Isoyama and Masaaki Suzuki have written the liner-notes. The lyrics are available in English and German. Highly recommended. 5/5.

Better than Gardiner 21 Oct 2012
By Arthur Morgan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
After being profoundly disappointed in John Eliot Gardiner's reading of BWV 147, it is a great relief to find a period-style performance that entirely lacks the fussy, narcissistic mannerisms by which Sir John drains the spirituality out of Bach. He has a fine choir, but Suzuki's is just as good, and this version of the famous 'Jesu Bleibet Meine Freude' reminds us that it is possible to avoid Romantic anachronism without resorting to shallowness.

These are fine, cultivated performances that amply convey the spiritual dimension as well as the energy and joy of two great works. Recommended warmly and without reservation.
