GRAMOPHONE: Artist of the Year 2006

“It was a positive sensation. The Canadian pianist is one of the reliably mesmerising musicians of the day. You sit entranced….it would have been more accurate to say I was floating just below the ceiling. She seems to me the complete performer, gifted not only with fingers that ... I am eminently unqualified to write a review here; I am really a novice when it comes to Bach. My usual diet is Beethoven through to Sibelius, with some later 20th Century thrown in. However, I was genuinely bowled over by these concertos played on piano (as opposed to harpsichord). Hewitt's mastery of her art is consummate; with precision and dynamic range perfectly gauged. For me it was a first understanding of Bach the genius.

I highly recommend this collection to all.

This is superb Bach. There seems to be an electricity between Angela Hewitt and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, which has a wonderful clarity and attack. Fiona Shaw listened to these pieces in winter in the NY subway and said that they lifted her spirits. They certainly lifted mine. No need for period instruments with such rhythmic impulsion and musicality.

What a wonderful collection of Bach favourites, beautifully played by Angela Hewitt, whose interpretation of the music is excellent.

Good performance 3 Aug. 2011

I must confess I still prefer Garilov's rendition of these works (with Mariner/St.Martin-i-t-Fields) but Hewitt evidently loves Bach and makes a few interesting points.

Flawless Performance 12 Jun. 2007
By SPDMNMiata - Published on Amazon.com

Bach's works are pure musical genuis. And Angela Hewitt is one of the best modern Bach performers. Her interpretations are free from drama and faithful to Bach's original composition. However, this title is available on iTunes for less than $20.

too bad the orchestra is not on par with Angela Hewitt 16 Dec. 2007

I was going to buy this and listened to excerpts. AH is great as usual but the orchestra is truly deadpan dull.So I'll hold off for now

Angela Hewitt - Bach Keyboard Concertos 10 Feb. 2007
By JB - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Angela Hewitt is, by far, the most talented, and, best Bach pianist and interpreter of our time. You will not be disappointed!
