When I visited Puerto Rico about seven years ago. I stayed at the El Convento Hotel in Old San Juan. The only music you heard in this marvelous hotel was this recording. I am violinist and very familiar with the Bach Suites. The thing I like about this recording is that Casals sounds human. I say this because I can hear when his bow is not totally on the sounding point of the string. I tell my students that these vinyl recordings in the 1930s were much harder to do than the digital recordings of today. Many were first takes and no fixes. It is awesome for me to hear him play. It keeps him alive in my heart and soul. What a wonderful person he was. I also have the YoYo Ma and Lynn Harrell recordings of the Bach, but this one, I hold close to my heart. I also suggest reading Pablo Casals autobiography "Joys and Sorrows". This recording is the heart of an amazing human being.
