..odd. I still haven't quite got my head around it yet. My recommendation could warm up to four stars with time, but never five. The standard of playing is good, even outstanding, but the tempi are strange, insofar that they change a lot, giving the music an odd ebb and flow, which I don't particularly like. Sometimes it's far, far too fast, as per the final movement of No.3, where it's so fast that the players can't articulate some of the passages properly.
I usually end up back with the old all-star (Michala Petri, Heinz Holliger, Jean-Pierre Rampal, etc.) Philips recording with Nev and the ASMF - the fact that they use modern instruments is irrelvant for me.
