I bought this disc after reading a favourable review in the famous "Penguin Guide" and I certainly wasn't disappointed. The recording is truthful, while the playing, in all the works, has that wonderful quality that makes you hear the pieces as if they were new. Shostakovich knew this pianist and was so impressed with her Bach playing that he composed a set of preludes and fugues with her in mind. The Beethoven is equally enjoyable and the disc is a fitting tribute to a very fine Russian pianist who made too few recordings before she passed away. Recommended with enthusiasm.
