Great Tableture Book 17 Mar. 2014
By Richard L. Sparks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book was my first introduction to classical music on the banjo. Until now I have played bluegrass and some folk songs. But, after hearing some classical numbers, I just had to see if I could possibly play that kind of music. I can hardly put my banjo down once I start working on the songs in this book. My wife thinks I have lost my mind switching from bluegrass to Bach, but hey, I am only 60 yrs. old, so it is time for a change and plenty of time to make it. Now, in my opinion it would be a bit much for the beginning banjo player. But, if you are going to painstakingly pick one note at a time anyway and playing classical is your ultimate goal, just be patient with yourself - it will pay off in the end. Oh, one more thing. There is a very good classical banjo CD called Bach on the Banjo by John Bullard. I thought that it would supplement this book, but of the 9 tracks on the CD only 3 of them are Bach. The rest are great, though. I am just saying that the CD is not a perfect fit for the book of the same name. See you at Carnegie. :-)

Great for Beginners and More-Advanced Players 28 Nov. 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

These songs lend themselves to the banjo very easily. This book contained all of the pieces I hoped to play, and a few that hadn't even occurred to me, but I'm glad they're there. I'm a beginner on the Banjo, and some of the pieces still look a little above my comfort level. There are plenty, though, that have been very easy to pick-through and are very satisfying to play.
Excellent - but not for a beginner 22 Oct. 2014

Really Excellent. I change some of the ways that the notes are played to fit my ear, changing which string and fret to use to get the same note. If you play the banjo that is easy to do. I am not greatly fond of the use of hammer on that he uses, but again, easy to change to fit your own ear if you want. Not for the beginner, at least it doesn't seem that way to me. It seems more appropriate for advanced beginner or intermediate levels. Advanced players who haven't tried classical music should really enjoy it.
bit otherwise if you are into this genre it is an excellent addition. 8 April 2015

Learned a few songs from this book that John Bullard didn't have in his books.
I wish there was a companion CD, bit otherwise if you are into this genre it is an excellent addition.

Great to surprise everyone with an elegant Bach piece after they have been listening to bluegrass all night. Easy to learn.
