Everybody knows Troublegum. It was Therapy?s `classic album', and `their finest hour' and so on. Pick your lazy cliché. As great as Troublgum was (and still is), it's definitely worth going back to the start of the band's career with Babyteeth. Although it's a short album, not a moment is wasted. Each track is a superb slice of anger and power. The production is a little raw in places but that only adds to the album's feel. It sounds like they got stuck in with no messing about. In short, Babyteeth is a stunning reminder of what a band can do when they've got nothing to prove and nothing to lose.

Therapy?, Babyteeth - Back in 1991 the Irish rockers ‘Therapy?’ released their first mini-album “Babyteeth” that featured both the tracks “Meat Abstract” and “Punishment Kiss” from their debut release, the 7” vinyl “Meat Abstract” single from 1990 that had a pressing of a mere 1000 copies.
The tracklisting is as follows:

4. Animal Bones
5. Loser Cop
6. Innocent X
7. Dancin’ With Manson
From the mini-album’s start we are treated to the downbeat, sleazy, bitter sound that early ‘Therapy?’ was all about. With a sampled “Wake up…time to die!” welcoming you intro the first track, you know what to expect. Each track on the release has its own dark and evil character that shines through the musical gloom. The track “Innocent X” is a personal favourite and, in my opinion, is of the best tracks the band have ever written. For an even more energy-filled and darkly aggressive version of the track, get your hands on the live recording of it that was included on the 1993 “Opal Mantra” single release.
For anyone who is a bit of a late-comer into the group’s music, it is important to get your dirty mitts on this mini-album along with the 1991 mini-album “Pleasure Death,” the 1992 debut, full-length album “Nurse” and the 1993 mini-album “Hats Off To The Insane.”
The mini-album was released through Wiiija Records on both CD and LP formats.

Up there with Nirvana's 'Nevermind' as one of 1991s best releases, 'Babyteeth' is the sound of a great band cutting their teeth (hence the name) before hitting the big time with 'Troublegum'. This first record from the Larne - based three piece is a sample laden (opener 'Meat Abstract' kicking in with a classic sample from the film 'Blade Runner'), claustrophobic, guitar driven rock'n'roll masterpiece. Make no mistake, this is a far cry from the pop sensibilities later displayed by Therapy?, but is in many ways a more rewarding listen, more underground, and ultimately more sincere, in its approach. A must for all fans, this record will also appeal to those who may have been disillusioned with the pop/punk façade of Therapy's major label releases. Make no mistake get your teeth into this baby!

If you still have those babyteeth, then smack em out, turn up the sound system and hear the wonders of Therapy rockin' your street. Definately a CD for those metalers out there. Read more

Some really good tracks in the "original" Therapy? style.
Babyteeth has definitely got some of Therapy's classic tracks on it, although a few do sound fairly coarse in places. Read more
