Other reviews have stated that this lamp feels "cheap" or of poor quality, but that very definitely is not my experience. I first bought one of these lights in 2001 when my eldest son was born. Now, in 2013, after literally every day [night] use, I have finally had to retire it and buy a new one for my youngest.
My original Babytec Autofade has really done me proud, surviving 3 house moves, 2 children, several drops on the floor(!), a punishing everyday use for over 12 years, and in all that time has only needed one replacement bulb! It has now just started playing up so I have replaced it with a brand new one which works perfectly and does exactly "what it says on the tin".
To those reviewers who say it is cheap or low quality, I'd just advise not judging a book by its cover. There is seemingly no other nightlight on the market that offers the flexibility of different settings that this one does, and it is extremely robust despite its light-weight feel. I agree, if you're putting it on a bedside table then it could do with a heavier base; for me personally however, I have never felt that babies/toddlers and mains cords mix well, so ours has always been on a high shelf giving a gentle glow to the room and easy for mum to turn up just bright enough during the night for night feeds, administering cough medicine, Calpol, cuddles, putting the duvet back on, plus numerous other tasks!
Over all, a great product.
