I fancied a change of image back in June and decided to go for the shaved head and designer stubble "bad boy" look rather than my usual clean shaven, spiky hair look.
Went to buy myself a set of clippers and I seen this in alongside the clippers I fancied so I thought Id give it a shot.
It certainly looks the part and at £40 its pretty expensive for a beard trimmer.
The cool thing about this is that you can just push a button and the head automatically rises or drops to the setting you want.
It goes down to 0.5mm which I liked because that gives you the 1 day stubble look I wanted.
Also liked the idea of not having to oil the blades.

Unfortunately in practice this doesn't work quite as well as I hoped for.
You have to make so that the trimmer is at 90 degrees which is hard to do especially around the chin and cheek area.
Also nicked myself a couple of times while using the 0.5mm setting.
When I wanted longer stubble 1.5mm - 2mm, I found it very hard to get a consistent length all over my face.
In fact one time I got really annoyed and pulled out a Gillette Blue II and shaved everything off.

Its a shame because Babyliss have a really great idea here.
They need to re-design the head and guard area so you don't need to continually hold it at 90 degrees.
Also heard people complain about the battery power, so maybe they need to look at this to.
Ive have recently used the 30 day money back guarantee and am on the look out for a better trimmer.

This product has such an awful design flaw. The trimmer head only moves up and down (not forwards over the blade) which means when trying to trim over the chin the blade is exposed and cuts off all the hair.

The result is patches of baldness in your stubble. The instructions tell you to keep the trimmer flat at all times - pity your face isn't one giant flat surface then really.

Don't buy this trimmer!

The central gimmick of this trimmer is the motorised shield which, if it worked reliably, would allow you to trim to a specified length. Unfortunately, the exposed blades and the necessity of holding the razor at exactly 90 degrees to maintain anything close to an even length mean that at anything above the lowest setting this product is a pain to use and, as many other reviewers have noted, borderline dangerous. A cheap, plasticky shell and slightly ugly look don't help the package. Which is a shame, because this idea is so good on paper that you just hope that with some perseverence a later generation of this product will get it right. Unfortunately, this one feels like an early prototype that has been accidentally released as the finished article.

Warning! This is a terrible piece of design. One false move of your wrist and you take a chunk out of your face. If the guard was designed better it would be great, but it is unfortunately awful. I don't know how they didn't notice it before they released the product.

When I first saw this advertised I was really optimistic, as I have been looking for a good while for a beard trimmer which gives a close, accurate stubble.

However, having received it for a Christmas present, I am bitterly disappointed. Here's why:

1. The comb guide finishes at the end of the cutter so if you accidentally tilt the trimmer beyond the 90º as advised in the instructions, the guide goes out the window and your beard is immediately reduced to 0.5mm, if not less. This is particularly evident around the chin, where it is impossible to stay at 90º to the face.

2. Using the trimmer on 0.5mm around the neck area, causes sharp painfull cuts, every time without fail. My neck is completely butchered!

3. My trimmer, only 6 months old, now only works intermittently. The buttons to raise and lower the comb guide rarely work unless the whole unit is shaken vigorously. Very annoying.

To make matters worse, because it was a gift, I am unable to supply proof of purchase to return the thing. Don't waste your money.

Verified Purchase
Cuts my beard well when fully charged up. However my beard is typically coarse and takes a while to cut evenly. The Babyliss I-Trim looses its charge after a couple uses and by the fifth day (if i am lucky and it lasts that long) will cut out and need recharging to the max. This product doesn't do what it says on the tin. I am now on the hunt for a replacement - any ideas?

I ordered this as a gift for my hubby as he likes the stubble look. However, he's used it 3 times and each time he's taken nicks out of his skin, which is something he's not done for many years. The design looks good and the idea is promising, but I feel it's back to the drawing board for this shaver.

The idea is a good one. A beard trimmer that will give you a uniform finish in 30 precise settings, from beard right down through designer stubble to five o'clock shadow.

Previous experience with Babyliss products has been good for me so i expected a well-designed and constructed piece of kit.

Unfortunately this item fails to live up either to the good idea or the company's reputation.

At longer settings the trimmer works very unevenly, and I found that while cutting some hairs to the desired length it merely combed others.

Set at 0.5mm it seems to give you the best chance of an even trim. Unfortunately this setting also has the highest likelihood of drawing blood. Not pleasant, and not the look I was hoping for!

The major problem with this trimmer is that you are expected to keep it at exactly 90 degrees to your neck at all times. Thats a bit of a tall order, especially on your chin and neck.

This trimmer was not a success for me.
