This is the only safety barrier/gate that I have beeen able to track down will deal with wide openings, or fence off areas such as separating the dangerous part of the kitchen from the safe part. It's made of six separate sections, each the size of a normal stairgate, that can be used individually or joined together in various combinations to fit the area you want to baby proof. I use mine to cross a wide hall to enable the baby acccess to a large part of the room but prevent an escape attempt through the front door. Friends use theirs to protect the TV/video /music centre/ CD and video shelves bit of the lounge. Because it has to be set up in a curve/zig zag arrangement, it's very stable and will fit any width of opening up to the maximum. It's also pretty easy to put together and can easily be taken off the fixed wall fittings if you want to use it as a play pen occaisionally. In the play pen configuration it's also easily transformed into a tent or playhouse! Just one more plus point, which is very important; the gate is very easy to open (in either direction) and close with one hand when you're carrying the baby and everything else in the other and always shuts safely and securely with a nice, audible click.

We bought this item just under 3 years ago. It was in constant use for both my son and later my daughter. I cant under value having a 'safe place' to put toddlers when the doorbell rings or you have to spend a penny. It is sturdy and well made. On top of all this we have just sold it and almost got our money back!
