About the Author
Tony Waterson, MD, FRCP,FRCPCH,DRCOG,DCH, has been a consultant paediatrician since 1986 with a special interest in community child health, child public health and medical education. He has written over sixty papers and edited a major student textbook in paediatrics, the sole postgraduate text on public health and the major textbook on tropical paediatrics. Presently, he is Consultant Paediatrician (Community Child Health) and Clinical Senior Lecturer, at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

I got this book when my new baby arrived. It has some good information and some really useful sections with pictures guiding you through the basics, such as changing a nappy, or bathing your baby.
It also contains information for later on for weaning, establishing a sleep routine etc.

My husband's godmother bought this book for us and we have been so grateful that she did. On numerous occasions we have been able to dip in and find reassurance and help when we've been worried, or looking for ways to make our childcare just more effective. It doesn't dictate, it just offers good choices and when, at times, I've felt a little uncertain about whether I'm doing things right, it's felt like a real source of support. It's very easy to access the information too. Highly recommendable.

This book is great if like me you find yourself pregnant with no experience at looking after a newborn baby. I read it pre- birth over and over again. I even practiced some things on a soft toy (picking up, dressing etc).
Once the baby (or babies) were here I have not really used it at all. I had a quick look at the milestones section recently. It also had a good section on how to cope if your baby ends up in special care which I did not expect to need but that proved useful.
In summary I have only given it 3 stars because although it put my mind at ease when pregnant I can not really see myself referring to it much in the future. Any questions I have had I have looked up on the internet.

I bought this book as I seen it on sale in the store before and after flicking trough I decided that it has all the information I was looking for. Apart from having loads of useful information, I also liked the quality of paper and layouts. Overall, it is an excellent buy.

I'm really enjoying reading this book and it reeally does have everything you need to know. Its easy to find a certain section and has been well writen. It has alot of stpe by step sections with pictures/diagrams so is very easy to read.

Useful read
I really liked this book, and read it well during pregnancy. Since then, to be honest, I've not referred to it much, but I certainly found it reassuring pre labour.
