This CD of the under-rated (certainly in the UK) Coasters contains all their US hit singles in sequence from 1955 to 1960. Pity it stops at 1960. If it went up to 1961 (there is ample space) the hits "Just Like Me", "Bad Blood", and "Girls Girls Girls" would be included. The vast majority of the songs were written by song-writing team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who mixed rock'n'roll with humour in their lyrics. And UK bands which have covered Coasters hits include The Hollies and The Rolling Stones.

Though doo-wop vocal groups were one of the major architects of early rock'n'roll, I generally favored the guitar and rockabilly influences of Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly. I absolutely love the Coasters though, and find this collection to be an essential component of any self respecting fan's library.
