David Duchovny stars in this drama based on the true story of Bianca Hudson, a desperate woman who abducts a new-born baby. Faking a pregnancy and then passing the stolen baby off as her own, Bianca leaves the mother of the kidnapped baby - Karen Williams - with the task of explaining her child's disappearence. If Karen can't convince the public and the FBI that her baby has been stolen then she risks being condemned as a child-killer, so she takes matters into her own hands and sets out to find her baby herself.

The story is interesting owed mainly to the 'based on a true story' of baby snatching. However, this movie is about the tenacity and drive of the biological mother and the pitiful woman who successfully plots and then snatches her child. In all fairness to David Duchovny, this is not his flick. His character is shallowly written; barely more than a genetics materials donor for the mother of the child. His character is hardly necessary to the story at all. He's mostly grist for the animosity of the grandmother towards the seemingly financially healthier boyfriend who struggles with infidelity to his comfortable life and wife, just how much he really cares for the mother of the child they share which has been stolen. He appears to decide to stand with the mother but by the time this is shown the mother's developed more internal strength and doesn't seem to even need him any longer. There is no final resolution shown nor information shared if he stays with her and their child or moves on. A Duchovny fan would want this as part of their collection reflecting his pre-X-Files outing.

Great 'made for tv' movie about a woman who lives with a police chief (Michael Madsen) who is about to leave her. To stop him from leaving she claims to be pregnant. As time progresses the viewer finds that she is faking the pregnancy but as time goes on, and the baby is 'due' she takes a drastic step. Posing as a potential babysitter she kidnaps a fairly newborn baby from another family. The police then seem more interested in trying to place the blame for the missing baby on its parents (specifically on David Duchovny's character as he is already married to another woman) rather than trying to locate the baby itself.

This movie certainly is acted well from nearly everybody, but despite being the cover star (due to the fact he appears in X-Files about a year later) Duchovny is wooden and monotone throughout. The two female leads are great though, and I did find humour in the fact that the (stolen) baby cries anytime Michael Madsen looks at it - this is about the time of Reservoir Dogs after all. Based on a true story you certainly feel sorrow and anger for the birth mother and can also feel sympathy for the 'baby snatcher' too.

Definitely worth a viewing

Two pregnant women miles apart but only one is really pregnant. A single mum and a married woman both have totally different reasons for having a baby. One has got to work and support her family while the other wants to keep her husband by lying about been a mum to be. It take all sorts but I found this movie quite good considering a low budget film yet holds your interest throughout the show. The feeling of losing your baby, stolen from you and than been accused by the police for everything unspeakable trying to put the blame on you and your partner. The story is fantastic with the actors doing their parts very convincing, as to make you aware what is happening around them. I rated this an A grade for the entertainment being fabulous and something different for a change. So take a spell and rest with your feet up to a wonderful show that will make you sit up and notice, don't forget the popcorn. Enjoy!
