Crazy Geography: Statesboro Georgia-born guitarist Brooks Williams crosses the ocean and finds red-clay soul and wind-blown twang on the trans-Atlantic road. Blues Americana guitarist singer and songwriter Brooks Williams delivers the deepest and most intense interpretations of everything from early blues songs to his recent original compositions on Baby O!, his 17th CD, his first recorded in the UK. A 23-year veteran of the road and living the trans-Atlantic life between Cambridge (UK) and Boston (US), on Baby O! Williams sings about a forgotten New Orleans guitarist, a Mississippi tragedy, the ache of long-distance love, staying true in the face of adversity, and not giving up on love. Williams’ voice floats over foot-stomping grooves and rollicking guitar riffs supported by David Goodier’s bass, PJ Wright’s steel and dobro, and Keith Warmington’s harmonica. Produced by Williams and engineered by Andy Bell (Seasick Steve), Baby O! is his most immediate and compelling roots record to date. The music that traveled across the ocean from the US to the UK on scratchy records and static-laden radio signals in the 1950s and early 1960s, then traveled back across to the US via records, singers and guitarists from the UK in the late 1960s and 1970s, continues its journey back and forth in the on-going singing of a timeless song. Brooks Williams - Baby O! (Red Guitar Blue Music)
Rated one of the top 100 acoustic guitarists in the world, Brooks Williams is equally adept at writing songs, and the majority of the material on Baby O! is self-composed. There's always been an element of blues picking in Williams' music, but his latest takes it to a new level. Recorded in Bristol and mixed in Sheffield, with British musicians (though not in a British blues style), Williams takes the opportunity to explore the early blues ramblings of the Delta. Son House and Mississippi John Hurt are both covered, but Williams' own songs impress equally. "Frank Delandry" might be a classic story-song, but the driving rhythm and death motif places it directly in the blues tradition. My favourite, "Walk You Off My Mind" is the perfect merging of resonator guitar, Williams weathered growl and a hard-done-by lyric. 8/10.

I like Brooks Williams and love acoustic blues music thats not overproduced, this album in my opinion is his best yet its upbeat acoustic tracks make it really hard to keep your feet still, how good blues should be ! - If your new to Brooks Williams try this one and give it a listen.
