I had in the past used a bulb aspirator and found this little help when baby had snotty nose as it was so fiddly and needed several attempts.. However, this bit of kit is the best thing I have used. It seems unhygenic but its got a filter (which you can wash fine in soapy water - thats what I do and it drys and goes back together no probs - see no reason why you would need replacements as per other reviewers comments)and you do not get anything back in your mouth at all. Its so satisfying to remove loads of snot (sorry too much info!)and you can see this in the clear casing. Its instant and easy to use. As for the cord being too long and causing probs - yes baby does start to grab for it as they get older, but its not dangerous or anything - its just a case of holding little hands out of the way - as you would need to for most things once they start to get a bit more independent!!!
Additionally may seem pricey - but I got mine for £7 in Boots and considering it seen lots of use and makes baby more comfy I have found its money well spent. Carmen. Mum to two boys 2.5 yrs and 6 months.

I saw this gadget at the baby show and was impressed. Being a doctor and expecting my first baby, I bought one at a discounted price. The makers of the products said it was also available on prescription from the GP! Just ask them for 'Baby nose clear nasal aspirator".

This nasal aspirator is excellent. I must admit I was a bit sceptical about a piece of tubing and plastic costing nearly £9 from Boots but seeing how effective it is has proven its worth over and over! I did get a gift set which included a bulb aspirator but this didnt work at all. I agree with other parents - there is nothing worse than your baby struggling to breath when they have a cold and you feel helpless. This device is so easy to use, allowing safe and careful suction by the parent to remove any nasties up babies nose - and to be able to use from birth is great too. Although, its not just for when babies have a cold, I use this nearly every day to ensure my babies nose is always clear. Whenever he repeatidly sneezes I actually look forward to cleaning his nose to help him breathe, knowing Ive helped and made him more comfortable. Its a great design with a small filter in the middle of the nozzle which will catch anything you sook out, you can instantly see if you have suceeded in removing anything as the casing is clear. Its very easy to unscrew and clean. I leave the filter and nozzle part on a piece of tissue to dry before next use. Absolutely brilliant!

great for tiny noses
This is the best aspirator you can get for tiny noses. All other brands are too big for 8-12weeks-old babies. If you like the smell of the oil is subjective.
