Product Description

Review

A great gift! Having looked at a number of well-thumbed baby name books in local bookshops (3000 names, 5000 names, 10,000 names - please stop!!) I chanced upon this book. It is beautifully produced and gives great ideas on choosing names from a variety of methods. A great looking book that would make a wonderful gift with simple touches like a piece of blue and pink ribbon that can be used as a bookmarks for your favourite names. As printed on Amazon.com --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I bought this after reading the reviews. It is a pretty book and looks very nice but for the price the quality and quantity of the names is not good at all. At the very most you get 8-10 names on a page and only about 3 pages to each letter for a girl and a boy and I found most of the names to be bizarre. It it good however for having a laugh at the names as there are more obscure names than useful ones.

Possibly a pretty gift but if you are struggling with names like we are then this book isn't for you.

Charming--the perfect gift for a pregnant friend! 4 Dec. 2008
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
A book for a newly pregnant mom-to-be to dream over, and one that's both handy and pretty. The pages are trimmed in pink for girl names and blue for boy names with cute color toy pictures sprinkled throughout.

There are thousands and thousands of names listed, and each name is given with it's meanings (Colin, for example is from the "Celtic, strong and victorious" (p 160). Alternative spellings are noted.

There is also an interesting listing of all the different popular names, starting with 1880 right up through the year 2000. It also includes a section on names from other countries--a popular Chinese boy name is "Ho" and another is "Manchu". And what about combining names, what works? There's a section to help you with that, too.

Best Loved and over used 29 Sept. 2013
By Gary Clark - Published on Amazon.com
This is probably one of my least favorite books for baby names that I've looked at. Sure, it's pretty to look at and the information relating to the individual names seems pretty accurate, but I would urge any prospective parents using this book to skip the Introduction. While I agree with some of what the author says on selecting a name, I found many of the opinions or suggestions a little too absolute and could cause people to overlook perfectly good names. There are some really great names to be found off the beaten path and your child won't have to go through school as Jake R. or Emma C.
